Anyone have copy of TSB 6420, windshield creak fix with "rope"
I've got a rock mark dead center of the drivers side of the windshield, so its being replaced and I wanted to install the windshield creak fix at the same time.
I'd like to hand the installer the TSB and part (996.541.903.00). Will the dealer print out a copy for me? Or if you've got it and could fire off a copy to my RL id @yahoo.com, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance! |
I can't help you, other than to say that I have a DIY skill level of zero, and I was able to install the rope by myself in just a few minutes. It may be the easiest DIY for our cars. It killed any/all noise.
Good luck! |

goof,
I read your thread on putting it in, but wanted a copy of this to give to the installer. "Just shove it in" is the quick summary of the methodology, but I thought an official description might be better... Mark, Gracias! But those crafty Germans secured it so it can't be printed! :grr: Luckly my local dealer faxed me a copy after talking to the parts guy. Now of course I need to see if I can find the darn rope. 2 local dealers are out of stock, and I'd like to get the windshield fixed this week. Might have to install myself at a later date, but I suspect its a bunch easier if I let them do it at the time of windshield install. |
You may want to wait until the sealent around the windshield drys before installing the rope. piece of cake to install. I just did this awhile back.
Cheers! |
hmm... good point diet97993. Thanks!

and during the job and after, ALWAYS keep the windows open for 8 - 10 hours.
if you cannot find the rope and you are in a rush, there is butyle ropes produced by 3M which do exact same job, There is 6mm (08610) porsche size in the TSB, 8mm and 10mm. I used the 8mm part number 08611 best regards |
Keith
If you find a source for the rope let me know, or just buy 2. Didn't you hear those creaks from my window when you drove my car, or was the exhaust too loud!? I'll check Marshall's Hardware for the 3M alternative. Nick |
i opted for a strut brace. squeak gone :-)
