Costco premium gas

Costco premium gas
I have always used Chevron since owning my 993, but now that gas prices are so high i wonder what the rennlist members think about using less expensive Costco premium gas. The Costco i shop in Salt Lake uses two filters and has an additive. Costco gas or not?

Does the brand really matter? I thought that was what the Octane system is for, to ensure that you get premium when you pay for it. I bet you Costco has probably better gas than many bad or remote neighborhood stations that either don't sell much premium (and therefore stands in the tank for a long time) or don't care to even clean the filters...

Check the ethanol content. One way to boost octane is to add more ethanol. Besides the fact our cars weren't designed to run on alcohol you get less mileage so the savings per gallon my be offset by higher consumption.

here's one opinion -

I work in the industry. gas is gas is gas.... yes some states mandate ethanol and others may not but they all buy from each other's refineries. the brand at the pump has nothing to do with who refined it. they all refine to a set of standards. buy on price given the same octane rating and ethanol level.

IMO I would be less concerned with what brand of premium you buy and more concerned with finding premium that does not contain ethanol. I use a commercial fuel company for my business and they offer ethanol free premium so that's what I run.
Also if you apply real numbers to this, you would save about $50 per year buying gas from Costco assuming you drive your car 8,000 miles per year and you save at least $0.10 per gallon over brand x. Now factor in whether or not there is a gas station closer than Costco and what your cost / time is to wait in line at Costco. I don't think it matters in the grand scheme. Better to focus on how to make an extra $100 per month in your business. Wow this paragraph is blowhardy... lol

Gas is Gas.
Just watch for Octane Rating and Ethanol content.
Additives is mostly marketing gimmicks, and if any are added, are so diluted, that I'm not sure how efficient they really are.
You are better off buying Techron in a bottle and adding it yourself.

Gas may be gas but not every station is the same. At least here in California the majors are getting out of the retail side, Shell for one. Just because a station says "Chevron" on the outside doesn't mean they own and operate, they just provide the gas. Mom and Pop are the owner/operator and with the gas business the way it is they may tend to skip some of the maintenance that isn't regulated, like changing filters and cleaning tanks. I always use Chevron stations that are well kept and newer.

There used to be an FAQ on the Chevron web site that stated that regular use of Chevron fuels with the Techron additive was about as effective as regular use of bottled Techron.

i'm sure the gas is fine, the wait, if any, is not.
