You can open the engine bay & see the 2 drains near the rear window. You can hose off the sunroof, & see if water comes out.

The front air vent drains under the car. You can also put a hose in there, & see if the water comes out.

To clean, you can use compressed air, cloths hanger, or some times even water pressure will unclog.

Which front end vent are you referring to, 2 front sunroof drain or the AC vents?
I 'll use a weed wacker string to test for clogs and then pour some water to see if it drains properly. By the way, I found $1.26 in coins under the passenger seat. I'll use it to pay for part of the PNW 993 shirt. That looks awesome.

If it's a coupe, I'd look at B-pillar door seals. I've heard that they can pop out and leak there.

i deal with cab, thought, so not very familiar with where coups leak. I can tell you that insulation replacement piece is about $70 from Sunset, I bought one recently.

Mine is a sunroof coupe. I'll start checking sunroof drains.

I was talking about both. If you know the Sunroof ones are working, the AC/fresh air vent in front of the hood is a good start, the black grill comes off real easy.

LOL, that's cool! I'm also doing a hoodie, & long sleeve one. I love the way the logo turned out.

All 4 sunroof drains are not clogged, will work on the ac fresh air vent tonight, I've been driving the car in the rain, so far I've not seen any source of leak.
By the way, the Oregon PCA Spring Clean event is this weekend, I 'll see if there are windshield expert that can test the seals.

Taipei sees rain 100+ days a year and many 993's have wet rear footwell like yours. Besides sunroof drains, you should check your left and right fender seams (where the left and right fenders meet the body near front windshield corners). Between the fender and the body there is a plastic strip insert (decor strip) and water can be stuck there to cause rust through. Then water can flow in and soak the side carpet all the way to the rear footwell.

This is a must fix because water can also soak the carpet under the seat and damage the main computer of your car and that is a very expensive item.

New sealant at very little cost sorted it.
Can anyone help me understand the anatomy here? I have an occasional wet rear footwell, and I know it is not windscreen or rear window or sunroof drains. It is defintiely coming from road level somehow, as it happens when the road is wet but it's not raining.
Where exactly is the cross member and the point at which the seal is failing and entry to the interior happening?

Be very careful with water in the rear well. Many electronics reside beneath the passenger seat; including the alarm module. I had a leak that resulted in my alarm going off at random inconvenient times. Once on a quiet residential street in the middle of the night, once in my brother's driveway as his kids slept. It was a PITA that was only resolved via a brand new module which was very expensive. I would fix this leak ASAP.

So far the following checked out ok:
all 4 sunroof drains, fresh air vent drain, rear windows, door seals, transmission mounting bolts, wheel arch seams, crossmember.

The carpet and insulation are all dry now and have remained dry with all the wet short drive and 30 mins of "water leak test" at a local indy shop. Also saw a pair yellow turbo 993 and 996 at the shop, one of which is a rennlist PPI for a canadian buyer.

The next thing to do, is remove all the interior panels, & floor mats. Pour water over the car till you see some on the inside.

I'm reaching here, but trying to come up with something....
Did you check the underside to make sure none of the rubble plugs came out? I know it's a long shot, but worth a look. Also check your door threshold pieces, either plastic or the metal ones. I know there are some plugs under them, & they may let water in there.

I'm still trying to understand the crossmember seals piece - can anyone show a pic, or describe excatly where this crossmember is?

Example: Check "the tri-state area" where the A pilar, the door and the fender meet. You can see a plastic strip kind of insert piece.

There are serveral such kind of insert pieces. If you live in a rainy region, water can be stuck underneath these insert pieces to cause rust, then rust through and leakage. A lot of 993's in Taipei have this common issue. (But it is an easy fix.)

I just discovered this week that I have the very same problem (96 C4 Coupe w/ sunroof). There is a PCA workshop event near me this Sunday at a reputable indy - I plan on asking around there and will post when/if I learn anything.

Do you check from the inside or from the outside? any parts to take out to see it?

OK Guys - still asking - can anyone expand on the crossmember seal issue - exactly where is this?
