996 hardback seats installed in my 993
 

Hi all,

I just installed a set of seats I grabbed off of Jam996.

The seats were in decent condition when I got them, but I got the leather reconditioned by a local shop for $75 for the passenger seat, and $150 for the drivers seat. They look almost new now.

The install was ok using these instructions:

although these seats do fit pretty decently in the car, I wonder what the real difference is between these and the 993 hardbacks (minus the crazy markup on the 993s). The height adjustment isn't as good as my old 993 seats as its a singular axis height adjustment and I think I do prefer the electric front back control over the manual. They are comfortable and they do feel good though when I'm driving. I'm just picky.

Yes I recently installed a nearly new set of these in my former '95 993 C4. Pretty much bolt-in. Slight mod to the electrical plug, bend those front tabs flat and away you go.

The seats I installed were heated but since the new owner was willing to take that project on sometime in the future, I did not go there. It would be pretty simple to make work.

The biggest beef I had was you cannot adjust them low enough for my taste when installed in a 993. And I'm barely 5'9". Like the op, I did miss the individual front and rear height adjustment. Compared to 993 sport hardbacks (made by Recaro I noticed) I found the 996 sport versions to be much more like seats from any old car. I thought that they were not all that different feeling than the base model 996 seats.

In short, imo, the 993 sport seats are something special and there is a reason they cost so much.

how much closer to the roof of the car are you in these compared to the regular 993 seats?

once the seat is in the lowest ass height position, there is not much of a difference. When you raise it up all the way, it almost touches the roof. It has quite a bit more travel than the 993 seats

If I remember correctly, the 996 seat is aprox 1 1/2 inch higher then the 993 seat.

I have the manual 997 and they sit lower than the 993 seats I had. The seats are taller, but mine drop pretty low.

I think it depends if you have manual raise/lower vs power. I'm 6'1" and don't have any issues.

Yea I'm 6'4" so I am worried if they won't go down as far. I don't want my head rubbing the sunroof after paying a couple grand for 996 sport seats.
