Engine Modification for 993 C2

Pls pardon the ignorance but new to 993's as of this weekend. Did the drive from Seattle to San Francisco over weekend before it gets shipped to the East Coast.. The car has a fairly aggressive setup in every way except the motor which seems stock. Will primarily use the car for Road and Track days with no competition so no need to conform to any NASA/SCAA rules. In the planning stages so any ideas/suggestions very much appreciated to get the cars performance to more match the looks without totally sacrificing road manners and reliability...

Assuming this is Thatcher's old car, it has close to 100K miles on the clock, correct? With this batch of 911s you can't really add things like headers, intake, etc. to make them a little faster. The factory did a pretty good job with that. You could add a turbo or supercharger for about 10-15K. Or, if you want a real bad ass 300+ HP engine that has gobs of torque, get in touch with Geoffrey Ring from Racetek Engineering in Kingston, NY, and he can build you a bullet-proof NA 3.6L MoTeC engine that will outperform and outlast any of the blown motors out there. Best of luck!

yup. 104k.. would prefer to keep NA.. not keen on Turbo/Supercharging.. I'll check out RaceTek Engineering.. Thanks for the heads up.

Before you do anything, you may want to consider fixing the gearing. This will remedy the annoying gearing gaps which result in the engine falling out of its powerband with each upshift. The result is a car that feels significantly more responsive. You can search for driving impressions of regeared 993s. Here's mine:

A lightweight flywheel helps too.

Cheers,
Joe

Thanks Joe
Sounds like that is a step that I will be taking. I also will still either like to modify or replace the engine. Car seems to have more grip than my gt3, seems a waste to leave it with less than 300bhp.

welcome, and congratulations! Many of us here have been salavating like Pavlov's dog over that new to you 993.

Enjoy it in good health.

Please consider the drive down(up, over, whatever) to Hershey for the Pcar event on April 23rd. There are many folks from the NY metroploitan area making the trip that morning.

I for one, would absolutely LOVE to see the car up close.

Congratulations again!

It would be interesting to see what you will do. What GT3 do you have? With the wider track on Thatchers car, I could imagine it may seem underpowered.

Do a search under ninemeister and that will steer you towards what you want. Racetek is a dealer for ninemeister.

My car is in the shop and Ill post results once its done.

Thats the second time Racetek has come up and looks like a nice drive up route 9.. i'll have to check it out. I have a 07 997 GT3 and along with Thatchers 993 i picked up a 1977 911 this weekend also.. damn thursday night happy hour car shopping. I dont need the 993 to have 415 bhp esp as i imagine its prob 300 lbs or so lighter than the GT3. just my f150 feels faster right now and its bugging me!

JLJ11 - My car is currently getting the complete Racetek Engineering / 9m treatment (heads, pistons, cams, motec, gearing, etc.). I can't speak to the results as the car is not yet done, but I can certainly speak to the experience of working with Geoffrey Ring, which is simply fantastic.

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss.

if i could PM i would... i think i need to sign up for membership to do that but being a genius my wallet is still somewhere in CA.. turns out thats what driving 1000miles in a day does for the brain..
