Live your best life... a personal story of my 1st 993
Let me begin by introducing myself... my name is David and I've wanted a Porsche since I was 6 years old. At the time, I didn't know much about cars, but I did know that my then new neighbor had the coolest car I had ever seen... a 964 with a crazy spoiler hanging off the back. Over the years, I've developed an affinity for the infamous 993, like most porsche enthusiasts, but I never thought I'd pull the trigger at this stage of my life. I recently joined Rennlist (18 months ago) to calm the urge, thinking that reading about 993s might kill the itch... how wrong I was. I eventually started shopping for a car that's near impossible to find, a 1996 (OBDII) 993 C4S, mid mileage, silver on black, impeccable interior and exterior, rebuilt engine, from a reliable seller, fair price, local (to reduce risk), without a wing, never winter driven, etc...
Then one day, I was driving downtown and saw the most beautiful 993 I had ever seen in Montreal. I double parked, walked over to the parked car, and left my business card under the wiper. The owner called me, and we hooked up to talk about his car. Although he had no intentions in selling it, we met in the event that he'd want to sell someday.
Eight months later, I sold my truck and called him up. He told me that timing couldn't be better.
I started getting buyers remorse before even buying the car !!!! I tried to find all the reasons why not to buy the car.
* we have a 2 year old
* my wife is pregnant
* I live in montreal, and will need a winter car
* it's such an old car
* it's a porsche, what will people think
* it's such an old car
* my wife is giving birth in May
* maintenance will cost a fortune because it's such an old car
In the end, my wife was the strongest driving force in me making an offer and buying the car. She told me, in the wise words of Oprah, "LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE".
So I did. I am now driving the car of my dreams:
* 1996 C4S polar silver on black
* 73k miles
* rebuilt top end from reputable local shop
* impeccable paint
* like new interior
* bilstein suspension
* euro steering wheel
* hardback sports seats
* painted grill on spoiler
* new clutch
* PCA member
* lightly tracked car
* stock xenon lights
Last but not least, I intend to thank all those who helped me in making this foolish decision.
I may not own it for long since we do have another baby on the way... but I do own it for now : )
Here are pics for now... more to come soon.

David, nice story and nice car! As you may recall, I too own a 1996 Polar Silver C4S that was originally from Montreal. I see that the engine grill has been painted body color as well. They're almost twins, except for my MYO2s

Dave, glad you finally pulled the trigger. Sounds like a great car. Like my old one but with sport seats. Well done!

Thanks for sharing! Nice car and love the color!!!
You have a wife that's a keeper who understand our core...
Get some baby seats and you can have it for another 4-6 years.
How about some interior shots of that sports seat.

I have the same story... Would not have pulled the trigger if my wife, who does not even drive a stick, was adamant that I get the car of my dreams (since I was 11, not as good as 6, but hey ;-) ). When my friend decided to upgrade, i had NO CHOICE. So I did it, and have been giddy ever since. We just got another 8 inches of snow in boston. 12 more tomorrow.. 2 months till the baby comes back out... What snow?????

Why, 993's are eminently practical family cars, thanks to those two back seats. Makes a great grocery-getter, too. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
Seriously, congrats on a great find, both in cars and spouses. Your best life is very good indeed.
