Smile Another 993 newbie! Red '96 C2

Hey i'm new to the Forum so I thought i'd introduce myself, my names Brandon. I go to school, and am looking forward to learning as much as i can here on Rennlist, it's been really useful so far.

Ok enough of that, now to the car.

I have a 1996 Guards Red C2, inherited it from my dad, and just got it last week, it was sitting for quite awhile, something like 3-4 years, than driven for about a month or two, than another 6-7 years, before i got it. The front bumper and right side fender were repainted because the clear coat was peeling. It was done professionally, by a close friend who has a body shop.

Are there any big things, i need to check up on, i changed the oil, and completely revamped the sound system. Its got 34,000 miles, and i'm not sure when or if any of the filters were changed, or cleaned. I got all the lights off on the dash earlier today, thanks to some great members here, who guided me to the solution, 1 fuse for 4 lights, and the Speedo/Odometer. Should i go through each fuse and check them just to be sure? idk Thanks.

Congratulations!!! I guess your dad bought it new.
Nice to keep it in the family.
I'm sure she'll be well looked after.

Change all fluids and filters. Especially the brake fluid.

Enjoy the car....Everyone knows guards red cars are faster.

Very nice and welcome. I'll second the brake fluid and add transmission oil. Enjoy.

Car looks great! Welcome! I noticed from your signature that your family has quite a collection - if your Dad is thinking about giving away anymore cars I am available for adoption - just sayin'!

Beautiful car. Enjoy it!

In addition to what others have said regarding fluid changes I would also check to see if the RMS is holding up. Sometimes it can dry out when the car is sitting for prolonged periods. My car sat for seven years prior to my purchase. The RMS weeps ever so slightly but the weeping hasn't changed since I purchased the car three and 1/2 years ago so I won't do anything about it until it gets worse.

Best of luck with your new car!

Welcome. Like everyone said, change the fluids immediately. Oil, break and transmission. These cars do not like sitting around, so you will most likely require valve cover seal replacements, etc.. Look for any oil leaks when you change the oil. Enjoy!

When I had the oil changed, there was a small leak that was caused by a oil filter that was the incorrect size, so I brought it back to them, and they fixed it free of charge, but that's the only thing that's gone wrong with it mechanically.

Yeah, him and my uncle are kinda collectors, my dad used to have a Car Dealer, so they would just get ones they saw that were good deals, or thought would be collectable. So I guess it's just good timing on my part, cause I was about to get my liscense when they were taking it out from sitting for awhile, and he asked me if I liked it, and the rest is history. lol c/

Yeah, I want to give it to my son once, once I have one, so I just gotta cross my fingers that I don't get in a crash or something like that, I noticed that alot of people, once they're older, always end up wanting their first car, and go buy one that looks similar to it, so I just wanna keep this one long as I can.

Welcome and congrats! Where are you in SoCal? Looks a little like the 909?

What's the status on The Thing? Those have been some interest to me. Any pics?
