Default Speed bleeders

These seem like such a good idea. Any thoughts - pros/cons?

I had used them on my STi when I was racing it. Didn't have any issues.

Did your STI have the Brembo's?

It has always interested me as an option... Interested to hear other opinions.

I use compressed air with a pressure regulator/water filter feeding a cap on the reservoir. No need for the speed bleeders then, just walk around and bleed. I put a hose on each bleed nipple before I start to bleed, and have four bottles ready, one for each caliper (the hoses feed into the bottle of course). I pressurize, bleed, fill, bleed, fill and when done top up.

It helps to have a lift but I used to do it that way with jackstands too.

I just use the motive pressure bleeder. Works like a champ.

I've used speed bleeders on a number of cars and think they're great. I have them on my 87 911 and they made brake fluid change a snap.

Had them on my 82 SC and now I have them on my 964. Highly recommended. Makes bleeding a breeze. My new Motive Black pressure bleeder is still in the box laying on a shelf.

+1 on htey are a good thing. Have had them on all my p-cars.

I had these on a BMW M3. They were ok for a while, then started to leak. You got to be very careful on torquing them. They can leak under pressure (when you hit the brakes).

I really liked being able to bleed the brakes @ the track with only a bottle & tube. But in the end, I put the stock bleeders back in after a year.

Yep, it was an '04...Brembo's were standard.

How do you install them? Any other issues? Seems 1 out of about 10 so far...but would hate to have an issue at the track...

Install is easy. Unscrew the regular bleeders, put the speedbleeders in. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!! Don't even ask me how I know.

Doesn't taking the old ones off mean fluid everywhere?

Not unless you press the break pedal when you take them off. But you will have to do a quick bleed when you change over.


Over time, mine did gaul, & mark up the bores on the calipers. Yes, do not over tighten them!

As Stealth said, quick bleed after installing speedbleeders is a must.

Mine have been on the autocross car for the last 7 years or so.
