The city cracks down on front license plates about twice a year and goes looking for vehicles without them - there are plenty of us out there that do not put them on so it is an easy ticket to give. As for not having a rear plate or having an expired plate, I think you will get 3-4 tickets and then you get the dreaded "boot." There is very little towing in my neighborhood unless you have really screwed up.

You can take your license plate and scan it yourself or have it scanned, then take it to a copy center like FedEX/Kinkos to have printed on a self adhesive coated vinyl.

Didn't know of any jurisdictions up here that were doing that. As a policy, anyway. Now in Los Angeles (the city itself), they go all-out on enforcement.

Plus 1 on the meter maid action. I live/work in one of the busiest urban areas of Seattle. When out and about with the car 'round these parts you have to mind your p's and q's otherwise count on $40 donations to the city on a routine basis.

My decal (say it like a Canadian... deck-ull ) came from an anonymous friend with a sticker/decal business. Manufacturing your own license plate is of course illegal so I don't see how any company would offer these officially.

Since the entire enterprise is completely criminal and anti-establishment, I made mine 11/12ths scale. I now have a "cute" plate to go with my "cute" car.

Given the proliferation of redlight and speeding cameras I expect enforcement will only increase. In CA we can sometimes get away with no front plate on the road because new cars have only a temporary rear plate so the CHP won't automatically stop a car without a front plate. Get stopped for something else though and it's a different story.

I can confirm Palo Alto ticketing without any other violations.

Another Bay area jurisdiction that's actively pursuing front plate tickets is SF.

I don't like the sticker. To me it looks worse than a plate. The key is to mount the plate lower than the standard location. I used a couple of steel angle brackets mounted to the underside of the opening.

Not true, my wife was pulled over for just the front plate missing. Maybe the CHP officer was lonely.

If you can get it printed on a reflective type background it might be an easier sell. It would just be tough to find something not too reflective (at least here in WA, the plates are reflective). Now they started putting holograms on them, probably to thwart this kind of stuff.

They are again talking about doing away with front plates here because it would save a ton of money, but the WSP is against it. If that ever made the ballot, I'd vote for it in a New York second!

Could be. They certainly have just cause to pull over a car with no front LP but it seems most don't, unless of course you're unlucky.

Kie's sticker plate looks better in person than in the photo. I don't run a front plate, and won't. So far I haven't been ticketed in the past two + years in WA.

In CA it used to be where if you got cited, you could just mount up the plate and go visit the CHP station where the guy/gal on desk duty would come out, view the corrected infraction, then they'd sign the ticket and with your wallet $10 lighter you were on your way. Probably not so simple these days.

It still is, but the CHP fix-it ticket now costs $25 after you've proven correction.

I believe the LA one we got at a parking meter last year was a zero cost sign-off. But since I couldn't find the front plate, and left it go to the last day, I think it was a $20 fine.
