Best 993 replacement radio - which one to get?
The system in my 993 was upgraded prior to me taking ownership to include a blaupunkt multi-cd head unit, BA speakers, and amp in the front trunk.
The head unit crapped out and I quickly through another headunit in there for the time being.....well a couple years later I'd like to put a nice new headunit back in that blends into the dash instead of sticking out with colors and lights.
What head units are you guys running that have an easy ipod aux input or even better ipod control that still look nice in the car? I'm assuming most are running Alpine units?
Thanks,
Chris

I am big into keeping an OEM look. I would go with the CDR 220. This will keep the right look and give you a mediocre sound system. It is much better than the CDR 210s that came with out cars, but it is still just mediocre. And, with the CDR 220 you can have an iPod hook up.

Blaupunkt Toronto, it's plug and play - dont have to cut any wires and return back to stock if you want to. Blue Tooth, headset jack directly to phone, hands free phone feature - you can speak and hear crystal clear. custom color so you can set the screen color similar to our car's dash lights. man i sound like a salesman.

I like it too. Might be more period correct for an early 911 upgrade though. I've been happy with my CDR220. Got the display upgraded to work in the 993 and with the factory hi-fi option already in the car I'm quite pleased with the upgrade in sound quality and it looks/is factory.

I put a CDR220 in my 97 and it works for me. As a side note, still trying to make a similar unit work with neighbor-John's early 95, hi-fi equipped car.
BTW, can everyone post pics of their suggestions?

I was considering one of the Cascades as well, but I couldn't imagine shelling out that kind of money for a lower quality unit than my Pioneer just to get an OEM look.

Burning Brakes
+1 on the Alpine ida-x303.
I put one in about 2 months ago.
Orignally wanted the oem look - with Becker.
But the Alpine goes with the interior just fine.
A few passengers have agreed.
Using the device is great - USB and ipod - the big *** in the centre is great for navigation - just like ipod dial.
The display screen is nice and big and displays a nice retro style clock that goes well with the interior.
Dual illumiation and other function are good.
Only wish you didn't have to buy additional modules for blue tooth, graphic eq, etc.
Buy very happy with the purchase.
Good luck

I have this exact same question. I want to upgrade from my 210. I love the European Becker models. Especially the Indianapolis, which has iPod connectivity but no nav. Will these work? Just a personal thing but I think the Becker units pull off the OEM look the best...
