CDR 220 wont turn on

Had my car in the shop for 1.5 days. Picked it up & now the Porsche CDR 220 wont play or display anything but "Wait" in the display?

Any thoughts?

Rich

Try leaving it on for 45 minute to an hour. With an luck you'll get a screen requesting the code.

Thank's Chuck. what code ?

I just bought the car. I don't know any codes.

I found mine with the owners manual, tucked in one of the pockets. Previous owner was a detail guy and had everything I needed in the owners manual...mine had been switched out from 210 to 220 also.
If not, I think you can call Porsche dealer with a radio serial number and get the code.....

Both the 210 and 220 have a security code that needs to be entered anytime the radio is disconnected from the battery. It's a 4 digit code (I think) and if you enter the wrong code too many times the radio will lock out for a few hours. My guess is the battery got disconnected at some point and someone tried to enter the code, but incorrectly, and the radio is now locked. It should reset itself but you'll still need the correct code. Since the radio isn't original I doubt the dealer can help. You'll probably need to contact Becker and give them the serial number (which unfortunately is on the back of the unit). I'd also dig through any and all manuals and paperwork you got to see if you get lucky and can find it. The PO may have just written it on a page in the manual or on a receipt so look through things throughly. I've also seen them written on the radio itself (which pretty much defeats the anti-theft goal) so if you pull the radio for the serial number look to see if the code is written on it. Not to state the obvious but once you get the code it's a good idea to write it down and keep it somewhere safe.

Rich, are you talking about the Boxster? If so since it's the stock radio that came with the car the code should be with the rest of the manuals. It's the size of a credit card, maybe a little smaller.

Worst case scenario take the radio out, write down the serial number, call Becker and for $20 they'll give you the code. If you need the radio removal keys, they are relatively cheap on Ebay (under $5). Don't call the dealer, unless you have a good relationship with them they'll charge you an arm and a leg to retrieve it.

Best of luck!

Yeah, I hated that 210 with the bar volume controller. The 220 is much better while still keeping the "proper" Porsche look. Didn't Roche take out the 10 disc CD changer? I always thought that was a mistake, but then again I am somewhat old school and haven't totally adopted the IPOD adapter thing for a 993.

You might call Becker NA and see what they say.

ilko,

yes it is the Boxster 220 CDR 220.

Thanks, will pull it out and call Becker.

You can also find code generators on the net.
They have worked great for me :)

I don't understand why anyone would steal one of these unless they have a Boxster and if they did, they couldn't afford a CD player? :roflmao:

Anyways, I just bought a Boxster and it came with a CDR-220 and I would very much like a code.

ilko 02-21-2011 10:30 PM

What's the serial number?

Diamond Monaco 02-21-2011 11:39 PM
