Default Fog/ duct upgrade help needed

I have noticed that even with the HID headlamps, my view of the road at night is really poor. I'm hoping that the addition of some HID or LED bulb fog lights would help.
In addition, I've got some clear side-markers (mostly trimmed for bumperettes) but I hate the look with the original foglights. The difference in clear lens color just doesn't work for me even with this effort.
While I'd love to do the fog conversion on a set of aftermarket Turbo S ducts, I have no access to the appropriate tools, nor do I have the "skills" to do the job.
Short of paying a fellow Rennlister to do the conversion (seriously, anyone interested?) - how can I find a set of these:

http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx/p93061.jpg

I do not need any of the ducting, and the price is horrible ($772!!!), especially as that is unpainted, and I would still want to either convert to HID, or at least put LED bulbs in the lights.

Anyone have ideas?

HID's in the oe fog light housing help, but they give a wide, short, low beam - not much good for fast driving.

do a search, you'll find plenty of info/views.

Are your HID's adjusted correctly?

Be careful running fog lights- the cops are writing tickets for that here.

Multiple searches done prior to posting this thread

What I'm looking for is a wide beam that lights the road in a low & broad way - very similar to the pattern available with the Hella Micro conversion.

I read almost all the threads on the TechArt ducts (and horrible HK copies), and have concluded that these are the fog/ ducts that I like - I think the square lights match our cars appearance well. I would like to hear experience/ impressions if these fogs would provide what I think I'm looking for in a light pattern way or if I just need to do the conversion on Turbo S ducts.

Have you got HID on both the high an low beams ?
Can only speak for myself but my eyes get very tired when I drive with fog lights on other than in bad visibility conditions (due to the wide and low beams giving the brain to much and unnecessary information).

Take a look at these threads on converting your fogs to HID ... well worth the effort

flatsix911 link - OEM FOG LIGHTS - http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...-fog-test.html
this excellent link shows exactly what you will get, and it sound to me, like what you are looking for - a wide beam that lights the road in a low & broad way.

cost of oe conversion is <$100, but you may prefer the look of the >$700 carnewals.

you pays yer money and makes yer choice.

Russ,

Here is my suggestion....

1)simplest conversion- Do Turbo S duct with 55W beams/HID bulbs.
2)PITA-Do TechArt ducts/lights, if you check fleabay... It shows up once in a while for lot less, I got mine from CEC when they had sales few years ago.
I think few of us here has done the TechArt mods and looks very impressive!

FlatSix911 - I'm impressed with your conversion! A bunch o' questions:
- Which fog/ driving lights did you use? Wattage?
- It looks like you cut the duct "snoot" so you could attach the lights - what's the appearance? Can you see the shortened aspect from the front?
- From where did you source the Turbo S duct?

I have the aforementioned Turbo S ducts with LED's along with the Xenon conversion kit from Gert. Outside of painting/prepping the ducts it's a 45-50 minute job to install them all. You will find that it's more than adequate.

Hi Russ, glad you like the results ... my answers to your questions below

I first used the OEM fogs with 35W HID Bulbs and was not satisfied with the light output.
I switched to Turbo S ducts and used Hella Micro DE Fog lights with 35W HID bulbs and the resulting light output was excellent.

Yes, I trimmed the duct a bit along with some JB Weld epoxy to fit the Hella Lights.

- From where did you source the Turbo S duct?
Ebay - I removed the provided light and replaced with Hella Micro DE.

Hi,

Question. the thread you linked to for Turbo S lights doesn't seem to show the conversion for the TURBO S Brake Duct "Positioning Lights"
- I would like to upgrade my "Positioning Lights" to HID just so the color temperature of my upper and lower lights are better matched.

These lights: (Turbo S positioning lights)

What is the bulb size used in the Turbo S positioning lights?
I assume you want to retain the factory lights ... correct?

The 1st link in post #6 shows the mods on a genuine Turbo S duct/light, are your Genuine?

If you want anything other than LED feston bulbs you will need to change the light for some kind of spotlight, then change the bulb to a HID type.

Don't know the bulb size on the Turbo S positioning lights. I believe they are genuine as I seem to remember ordering them from Gert. But it was a long time ago I did the mod (2001).

I do remember though that they had to remove the bumperettes and repaint the front bumper to make it work.

When you say retain the factory lights, you mean the main lights? No, I already switched them to HID. I just want the positioning lights to be HID also so they have the same appearance.
