993 cabrio = kid friendly?
Hi all I am contemplating a 993 cabrio and want to know if the back seat is usable for a 5 year old? I have a 996 coupe and he drives with me all the time without issue.
I searched on Rennlist and haven't gotten a definitive answer/impression.
Thanks for the insight.

Glen,
yes they are depending on height.
There is a suprising amount of room back there except leg room.
Also you will not be able to use the optional windscreen with rear passengers.

Not exactly apples to apples, but when I was fifteen my parents crammed me into the back of a 993 on a roadtrip to Road America. Definitely wasn't comfortable, but was manageable. I'm guessing a five year old will be just fine, given he/she is likely 1/2 to 1/3 my fifteen year old size.

I suspected I wouldn't be able to use the windscreen - not a biggie.
Thanks Glenn

993 cab is fine for a kid (mine is 12.5 now, the kid, not the cab, the cab is 16).
However, you can really only drive with the roof up. The windscreen would not matter, not sure why Rich mentioned it, as it tucks and zips to the roof lining when the roof is up.

Our boy (3 years) sits OK in the back but I don't think he really enjoys it that much, and me neither! Besides the fact that I just can't drive the way I normally do he won't be able to see anything, the deflector needs to go in the trunk, and the windows should be up. Or roof up. Better solution for me is to put him in the front seat using a child seat.
Definitively not a family car - we use our van if we want to go anywhere.

Only complaint I occasionally get from my 5 and 6 year olds is about the wind, but that is usually on a cool morning. Never a complaint about space, but I probably wouldn't take it for a trip that is more than an hour with them.

I have a 10 year old girl and she loves riding back there. We only take her on shorter trips though.
She can ride back there with the roof down, as long as you remove the windstop as others have mentioned.

My 8 year old and 5 year old girls fit just fine with room to spare in the back seat.
The only drawback that I see is that they may get bored in long trips when the top is up as they don't have a side window to look out from. When the top is down, they are too short to see outside over the boot cover, so they are screwed either way.

I have two boys, ages 8 and 5. They love riding back there. I do get wind complaints if we are on the freeway for an extended period. When they were younger I didn't remove the windscreen. They had enough head room below it and thought it was cool to be tucked in under there (the 5 year old still fits this way.)
My cab has taken the wife, me and both boys in the back seats to the beach and back and up and down PCH countless times. Booster seat up front is the way to go when just one monkey is with me.

Hey Glenn,
I just bought a '95 cab and my 9 year old daughter fits in the back seat just fine, with room to spare. She's about 65 lbs; not sure how tall.
The top doesn't intrude into the back seat when its down; maybe the boot cover does a little, but it's not a big deal - it moves with you as you lean against it.
We live in the country, so rides into "the big town" are 30 mins on back roads. Usually, she sits back there with a hat on and plays with her iPod or DS. It does get a little windy, but if it's warm enough, she doesn't complain.
We took a long tour of the Vermont countryside on the July 4th weekend, and our daughter really enjoyed the top down ride through the fireworks filled skies on the night of the 4th.
Hope this helps,
-Bill

Heck, you can stuff two of them back there! My older one is starting to complain about leg room now, but that's the price to pay when you're over 75th percentile for height.
