9M build
Hi Folks,
Long time lurker - first time poster, very much enjoyed reading and learning on this forum for the last little while. I thought this was a good time to lose my Rennlist cherry as my P&J, which has been maintained by Colin and his merry band at Ninemeister for the last 6 years or so, has started getting through oil at a prodigious rate. It looks like worn exhaust valve guides are the culprit, and its given me the kick up the backside I need to do something I've been dithering about for years and ask Colin to work his magic on the top end, with the 9M '+2' package.:jumper: Car's booked in towards the end of April - happy to keep folks updated if anyone's interested - although be warned I'm totally ill-equipped to answer most questions of a technical nature, I'm happy to point them at Colin... |
Just take lots of photos, and if you could, provide napkins for all the drooling that will most certainly occur.
Lots of UK envy on this side of the pond that you're lucky enough to live close to Colin and his other wizards at 9M. And welcome to Rennlist! Glad to have you here. Best of luck! |
Ditto what goofball said. I'm green with jealousy.
That's one hell of a first post, but we still want pics! |
Awesome! Welcome and congrats!!! Can't wait to see the pictures.

Great timing Fluke! I have been wondering what I would do without the 993 Speedster build.
|
+2 is cams/heads/valves/Motec?

No need for Motec on the 993 with the above package. |
Oh that sounds nice! 3.6 Varioram?
Please stay with us and post your progress as well as a final opinion! |

Hi Calvin, the +2 is heads, cams, valves, springs + retainers, modification of intake manifold, 100 cell cats and live ECU remap. I'm also going to try out the RS lightweight flywheel and clutch.

Yep, its a 1996 3.6 varioram (in Iris Blue / Black if anyone wants a complete mental picture...)
No plans to do anything to the bottom end. Leak-down test suggests everything is as it should be, other than the current thirst for oil. As I say, I've been lusting after a 9M top end rebuild for ages, the current drinking problem is just what I've been waiting for as an excuse to pull the trigger. Can't remember the precise expected peak torque, but without any increase in revs limit, I'm expecting somewhere north of 350 bhp. I'm sure Colin will be along at some point to provide some more detail on 'what' & 'how' etc. |
350 BHP on a stock compression 3.6, very nice!

I don't know if they scoop a little more compression with the custom heads??/ But agree, it is interesting.

Stock compression ratio? That strikes me as rather unpossible.

No need for Motec on the 993 with the above package. could you go into some detail cam specs(at least I/O duration)? valve sizes? are you going to use the 9M billet heads? expected rev limit? for sporting use you will like the RS/CS flywheel/clutch package(RS used the same dual mass flywheel/clutch package as other 993s) |
