Sell as whole or part out?
I know the answer, I think, but hey, let's all play the game.
I no longer have space for my '95 Cab. I need to either try to sell it or part it out. It would be worth more in parts, but i have no real ability to slowly disassemble it. And it would be a shame.
In short - the car has 139,800 miles. Just passed inspection. New clutch, LFW, Bilstein HDs and H&R springs in the last 3K miles. New roof and rear window 3 years ago. Roof converted to manual operation.
Started converting from grey to black interior and have most pieces, but not installed except door panels and some carpeting. Installed 2 Recaro Speed seats, driver's seat is heated and ventilated. HID headlights. Currently with Nakamichi head and A/D/S and Focal speakers. Remote key lock (no, this is not an immobilizer car). Some other toys that can be negotiated.
Bad things - the lower valve covers leak a bit, needs left rear brake rotor, one gauged rear Cup II. Body is far from perfect with some dents. I have a replacement front bumper and lower valances.
I'm sure that there are a number of good and bad things that I'm forgetting. The point is that I'd like to sell the car as a whole or sell engine/transmission, suspension and other large parts before parting the rest of it out.
If anyone is seriously interested in the car, please let me know. It's located in Boston at this point. I've been out of the loop on 993s or any other cars for the last year plus. Is 16-17K as is reasonable for it? Or should I part it?

I bought it with 112K miles and have not done the top end. Don't know if it was done prior or not.
I would like to sell it as a whole, yes, for many reasons. But if I can't, I'll probably part it. Curious what an engine with that mileage could bring today. Anyone could venture a guess?

It is so, Mark, my annual rite of spring - bitching and moaning about sell the 993
It's been sitting for the better part of teh last 14 months or so with occasional start and short drive. I just don't see using it much and now with no space... I think it's time if someone wants it.

Bummer. I guess if you absolutely HAVE to, you should sell it whole. Take the extra parts, offer them to the buyer first (easier to get rid of that way). If that doesn't work, try to pawn them off to us cheapskates.

Once you figure in your labor in disassembling the car and creating what is in essence a temporary car parts business -- advertising, correspondence, boxing, shipping, etc -- you could sell the car for $10K and still be ahead of the game. Just think of the time involved. Yikes.

Seems like a lot of 993 for $16-17K, IMHO. Good suspension, clutch, LWF, roof/top, seats!, stereo!...
For a brake rotor you have a 993 cab driver, and Spring is around the corner. Dent wizard might be able to fix her up a bit too...
How much oil does it burn? Assuming the top-end hasn't been done yet and someone wanted to just deal with it now to be done with it, Exotec in NH isn't too far away. But then again it may go another 50K+ without needing a top-end.

I'm totally with Mongrelcat. I'd leave everything on it to make the sale more attractive. You have better stuff to do with your time anyway.
In the sub-20K range, you're bringing in a lot of potential buyers. Why not put it on the market at 19.9K and see what happens?

Another vote for selling it. The time involved in parting it would be staggering. The crap involved in negotiating, explaining, packing, sending, cleaning up, disposing of the slag. And that assumes that the break-down would be fun. If the dis-assembly is not something you'd enjoy, that makes it even more of a PITA.
