Unless you have an AWD car, the tranny can come out without pulling the engine. I've heard this is possible in an AWD car also, just trickier.

Thanks Chris. The car does not lurch forward when starting it in gear. Do you know why this problem only shows up on deceleration?

I will look into just dropping the transmission. If there's anyone in San Diego who has a good setup for this, I'll buy the beer. And not Natural Light, the good stuff like Mickey's.

My car didn't exhibit the lurching symptom.

Interesting, my car has the exact same issue, when decelerating, the car is hard to pull out in gear. Any resolution Psagazio? When accelerating or light throttle, I can flip it out of gear with my pinky. If i'm braking or engine braking, I have to use my hand to move it, clutch pedal all the way in both times.

Had the exact same problem. Dry mainshaft splines. Once these were regreased problem went away.

I think this is what I’m experiencing but why does a good flush of the system cure the problem for a while?

I'm pretty certain your issue is exactly what's discussed in this thread. Unfortunately, the only way to access the splines is to drop the transmission. If you can modify your shifting habits, I'd try to live with it for the foreseeable future.

As to why the problem appears to change after a clutch bleed - I don't know.

It might be compound issue...the splines need to be regreased AND there's air in the clutch hydraulic system. Both would cause "laziness" in disengagement--splines due to increased friction, clutch hydraulics due to air compression.

I already have RS motor mounts. Not sure of the trans bushing condition.

I have the hard to get out of gear problem also. Most notable coming to a stop in second. Well bled clutch. Have a hard time believing lubed splines are the problem but nothing else has helped. Always a little mystery.

I had the same issue. Rusty splines were the cause. Ended up replacing the clutch while we were at it.

Obviously hoping against the splines but still don’t get why a fresh bleed of the system cures the issue for a while? Going to replace the clutch master before dropping the trans.
