Hubba hubba hubba...
I took a drive down to Holtz Motorsports in West Chester today to take a look at their inventory.
I heard a nasty rumor that they had a pristine 993 widebody in their showroom.
Man, were the rumors on target!
Behold, this 25,000 mile, '98 C2S in my absolute favorite black metallic paint!
Hubba hubba hubba... I was there with a friend who asked me how much I thought they were asking for it. I said, "probably about $60K". Later we asked and I was off by $100.
$59,900.

Here's a car that debunks the recent EXCELLENCE magazine's assessment of 993 values. I can relate a classic example of these cars holding their value. Back in 2002, I was looking at just such a car that was available in CT,,,but with less than 10,000 miles. The asking price was $60k. Sadly (and stupidly), I passed and bought a 2002 M3 with SMG. I grew tired of the M3 in 2004 and realized the error of my ways. Although we're talking de-valued dollars, the C2S has held it's own. The M3 has dropped like a stone. Sure glad I came to my senses!

Where have you been Leland? It's been a long time.
Beautiful car for sure,.......but isn't that turbo money?
Unfortunately, my budget will only allow for a NB coupe, but I keep trying to put it off until I can afford a WB as I want my next 911 to be my last. I do not ever want for another.

Yup, that's it. I can attest, it is a friggin' looker!!!!!
But, I'm going to need a more well used, less collectible, example... I have a bad habit of tinkering.

Exactly. If anybody knows what the market will bear its the specialty dealers. That said, I think its a very small crowd that would pay $60ish for a C2S but it only takes one if you are willing to wait.

I suspect it'll sell for closer to $55K, but still, it's a beautiful car.
When the time is right, I'm going to be looking for a mid-mileage C2/4S in almost any metallic paint.
I left my last 993 in Germany with a very nice Army Colonel. If I could find him, I'd try to buy it back. I sold it because I was venturing into the unknown with my separation from the service. Low and behold I found a job that more than doubled my old salary 4 days after returning home.
Hindsight is 20/20.

He is high, but he does a lot of work finding very good, no story cars. I like the chase (A la Wayne Carini) of a new car as much as anyone, but it gets old and expensive with PPIs failing and sellers forgetting to tell you that the odometer doesn't work, but it just broke 10 miles ago after you flew in to pick up a car. If you want a great car just write the check and drive it home from Holt then add up your time saved blah, blah, blah.
I am told that if the car is not right after purchase he will make it right with you, but that is just what I have heard from two guys. I bought a 951 from him when he was at Westtown Imports 15 years ago and have talked to him before every purchase I have made, but our tastes are not the same. He is a concourse garage queen and I am a 100K miles plus with mods.

too much.....and if you pour on the mileage the premium as low miler goes away-keep it as a garage queen/for posing then where's the fun? lots of widebodies around, no??
quick search seems to yield decent examples hi 30's to lo 40's, like here

do we all really believe overly priced example negates "excellence" pricing??
