Silver doesn't look bad but go for the gold.

Default OFFSET UPDATE

Man, you would think ordering wheels would be easier than this, but... here's the latest from BBS:

Front - 8.5 ET 56 not available, ET57 is closest they can build.

Rear - 10 ET 65 not available, ET63 is closest.

This means, when compared to stock 8ET52 and 10ET65:

The 8.5ET57 fronts would be 12.7mm wider total, sitting 1.35mm further outboard and 11.35mm further inboard. Is there enough room inboard for a 235 assuming not too low, HD/Euro M030?

The 10ET63 rears would sit 2mm further outboard. How tight are 285's going to be in that scenario?

Not trying to overthink this, but want to make sure that I can run 235/285 without rubbing. Input from the experts?

Oh, and yes, we're going gold!!!

Best,

Matt

The 1-2mm difference is negligible. The tires will have up to a 10+ mm total width variance depending on brand, so that is more important. Go for it.

Front shouldn't be a problem, but I have real reservations about 285/30 on 10ET65. I've looked and looked and measured and looked some more, but I think that the 285/30 will just hit my rolled fenders at my ride height.

I do see them used on very low track cars all the time, but until I can try a set I won't buy them

Is the clearance issue inboard our outboard? Or both?

If outboard, ET63 will be even worse...

I think Bill means the fender lip. If 65mm is not available, how about higher number like 67mm?? BTW Gold will look amazing.

It's going to depend on ride height and camber. As you mentioned in the other thread the primary benefit is the shorter tires effect on gearing, that isn't going to help me because of my trans. The other thing to consider is the effect on handling, I've chosen spring rates that impart more oversteer in mine, using 225/285 would do just the opposite and impart more understeer. I'd only want the 285 rear if I could run 245/35 front to balance the extra grip which the 285/30 will give in back. The only tires(that I know of) that come in those sizes are Hoosiers.

So critical - How much negative camber do you run?

Assuming a semi-aggressive alignment (i.e. at least -2 deg on the front) I would vote for 18x8.5" ET50 to ET54. Any higher and it looks really sucked in!

Default BBS E88's - correct offsets?

+ Matt Lane

Hello. I was hoping you could help.

I'm new to the forum and just stumbled across this thread. I appreciate it's from a while back but I'm going through the same thing now and would love to know where you netted out.

I'm toying with the idea of another set of wheels for my narrow bodied 993 C2 - mainly for road, occasionally for track. Worth noting my car has been set up like an RS.

I like the idea of a set of BBS E88 Racing wheels but not sure whether to go for Front 8x 18 et49 / Rear 10x 18 et53 or Front 8x 18 et52 / Rear 10x 18 et65 (which are the same offsets as speed lines & turbo twists for narrow bodies cars)?

Also would love to know what you recommend for tyres. I hear that Toyo R888 tyres are a good for road and track - and presumably 235 front / 265 rear are advisable on 8x 18 / 10x 18?

Also, I've read that these wheels are not road approved and have limited corrosion protection so will need cleaning every time after use - or can they be clear anodised for additional protection?

As you know they cost a bit so just want to get this right before ordering.

Would really appreciate your thoughts and look for discussing further.

Cheers
David
