993 RS conversion - can a Tiptronic gearbox handle?
grateful for some views from the petrolheads on this forum. i will be using this car as weekend driver mostly, and not for the track.
I am current working in Taipei, and I got to know of a RS 3.8 engine conversion from a porsche indie based on a 1996 993 Varioram model, tiptronic . Car has done 72,000 km on the clock.
They carried out the work, their blog provides some detail. 2 articles on the project with pictures. I used a google language translator to convert into English

1. can a tiptronic box handles 300 bhp?
1996 version, varioram but tiptronic (some compromise will have to be made here, hmm!)
Does anyone know if the tiptronic to handle the extra bhp since RS was only made for manual cars?
2. mechanical valve lifter - pros and cons?
- fitted on the car rather hydraulics lifters,
how frequent will this valve lifters have to be adjusted and will this be an engine out job?
3. Bosch motronic DME replaced
- the EPROM chip had been changed/modified, but not sure what type pof chip that was installed
- how do i confirm if it the 2.10.1 version for the RS
- not sure if the wiring harness from engine bay to the DME relay was also changed, how to check?
4. VIN number - VIN plate missing from the front window slot
not sure why but looks like the windscreen is a new one (not a sekurit screen which came with the original european model). the VIN engraved into the chassis under the front boot is there and seems to confirm the 1996 model year
all other labels in the car is not there due to being stripped for repaint (under the bonnet for options code , colour code label etc)
is there any additional way else to check the validity / provenance of this car ?
5 Tyres/rims
- speedlines rims all round (printed speedlines on the side of the rims for authenticity), general good condition with a few kerb scuffs,
- stock suspension (was on pss9 but removed and fitted with stock (not a new one though)
6. Brakes - does the car need a upgraded brakes?
- pagid brake pads (it does screech)
- stock 993 brake discs (does it need to be upgraded to handle the extra bhp?
7. Suspension
- stock 993 suspension (was on pss9 but too hard for the roads here)
- with the car lowered, what needs to be done to the tie rods?

even stranger than using a tip for the RS 3.8 conversion is the fact they did a
complete respray/colourchange w/o deleting the sunroof, headlight washers,
sidemarkers and even the rear wiper is still on... i don't get it.

I doubt there would be a problem with torque,,Porsche tend to over engineer their components and we are only looking at a 15bhp increase over the standard 285.
check it is a 3.8 RS engine,,,see the x51 thread for more.
