Cab light on in dash help
I just bought my 993 about 3 weeks ago and have 100 miles on it.
I noticed that everytime I start the car the cab light is on indicating the cab top is not fully latched. I have to press the cab close button and the light goes off. It is on every time I start the car, without opening or closing the top in between. Anyone have any ideas whats wrong or how to fix? I read one post somewhere that there is a sensor that can go out of alignment in the top from the top closing too hard over time. Anyone confirm this?
The top was replaced 5 years ago (800 miles ago) with a new top by the PO.
Thanks!

From my reading i would look at the convertible top microswitch. This unit is known multiple problems due to bad solder joints.
I had latch issue caused by the bad solders on the microswitch.
If if you have a left hand drive the microswitch is under the dash on driver side but you don’t have to remove the dash. It’s hard to remove though because of the access and it’s easier if you remove the seat.
You can redo the solder joints, ask someone specialized in electronics or send it to a 993 specialist.
Please keep us updated once you find out the source. It is frustrating to read many threads with questions without answer!

I just looked under the drivers dash and there is a loose wiring loom that it looks like a PO has modified. Pic attached. A plastic connector was loose and looks like it was slotted to fit into a bracket so I pushed it into the slotted bracket. Is this the micro switch? Also looking in the passenger footwell there is an unknown cable. Last pic. Thanks again!

Passenger side foot well I know looks wire?

In the attached file, I added what is the top control unit vs the central indicator control unit.
The function of the central indicator is not clear to me but I think it controls many warning lights shown on the gauges. Maybe you solved the problem by pushing the plug in place, let us know if it worked.
As for the other cable on the passenger side. I don't know what it is.

Remounting the connector in its bracket did nothing. I will see if the wire plugging into the top control unit might be loose.
Still curious what the other wire in the passenger footwell is, as well as why the wiring loom plugging into the central indicator seems to have splices.

No I haven’t I don’t think! I’ll try that soon. So in your experience it’s normal for the light to always be on when the car is started even if the top is fully closed and latched?

in few seconds the light will go away ( this is what i remember , my 993 cab just went into winter storage )

Nope I took a 20 min drive just now and the light never went out but it goes out if I press the close cab switch for a second. Always on when I start the car, seems to stay on unless I press the switch after starting the car :-(

I know that the spoiler light works that way in my 2000 986, took my off guard when I first got that car but I'm used to it now. The owners manual says it's telling me that the spoiler control module is functional but I'd prefer it to only tell me if its not.
I know comparing 986s to 993s is apples and oranges but I guess you never know.

when the roof is all open , the red light will go away
then close the roof all the way. ( i only do it one time, and no more light)
when you start the car again, and the light is on, then you have problem with the electrical circuit.
make sure when you close the roof the 2 locks are looking in.
good luck

had the same problem. turned out to be an incorrect relay installed in the fuse box causing the convertible top module to lose memory when the ignition was turned off, causing fault indicator to illuminate on restart. replacement with correct relay bridge ficed the problem

Yuval, I just turned the car on, opened the top all the way, light stays on. I then closed the top with the car on, and the light flashed off for a millisecond then came back on. Seems like there might be an electrical issue. I am hoping the same issue stevieboats had.
