Opinion: ATS RS 2-piece wheels or MY02? (pics)
Hi All,
I had a '96 midnight blue 993 that was totalled last year by a red light runner, and it came with some wheels I've never seen on another 993. They are made in Germany by ATS, the same company that made the "cookie cutter" wheels on the older 911s and 944s. They are genuine two piece 8.5x18 in front and 11x18 in back...the rear fenders have to be rolled for these.
I bought a nearly identical '95 with lower miles and original paint to replace it, and it came with MY02s. I installed PSS10s last month myself...big job, but I needed to do a clutch slave cylinder anyway, so I figured it was a good time to upgrade the suspension. I *love* the way it sits now and the handling is awesome. For fun, I installed the amazingly undamaged ATS wheels from my totalled car. I can't decide which looks better...the MY02s are understated, while the ATS are a little wider and a bit bling.
So what's your vote...MY02 or ATS? First two pics are from before I did the PSS10s.

Wow, interesting post....I thought for sure I would look for MY02 as extra set, DE's etc....but after seeing this post...I like them both! Tough choice, they both look great.

I would say that MY02s are generally the "safe" choice...no one will ever say they are ugly or don't work with the car. But the ATS are different and actually look pretty good...I would be torn between the two!
BTW, can you post the offsets of the rear ATS wheels? Thanks.

Thanks all for the compliments...I do like both. I think I'll give the ATS a try for a year or so...they have Pirelli P-Zero's on them with lots of tread, and my MY02's Toyo tires are worn.
I'm not sure of the offsets...would this be a number stamped on the inside of the wheel? I didn't see a receipt for them when I had the '96.

I would go with the 02's for their simplicity and lightness. The 2 piece wheel will require more looking after, modular wheels are a pain, which is why I use the MY02 over my RS speedlines.
