Default heating fan bypass piece

I took the blower and heater box off the engine on my 96 993. Somebody makes a pipe that goes from the fan to the round opening leading down to the sheetmetal under the motor. Anybody know where I can get this piece?

You can get factory copy RSR block-off plates from Rennline (www.rennline.com)....

Or you can order the factory RS bypass pipe from either Gert (search here) or Sunset Porsche in Oregon (also search here ).

Any thoughts on the pros / cons of going with either of those two options?

With the RS bypass pipe, you still have heat available if you drive in the winter. I'm not sure that would be the case with the block-off plate. Pic of RS bypass:

It's a Porsche part. Contact Sunset in Oregon.

I just installed a Sunset pipe in my 96. You will also need the 964 fan shroud piece. Do a search for the part number.

You will lose any little heat (you have with the by-pass pipe) with the blocking plate.
However, with the plate, you have some extra cooling to your engine.

I got the carbon fiber one from fabspeed. It does give the engine compartment a little bling and you lose about 5kg's, and it frees up a heap of space. You will also need the 964 fan shroud as the pipe will not fit the 993 fan shroud cavity. If you don't get the fan shroud you can use some flexiable heat pipe at the base of the heat bypass pipe to give you that additional angle you need to make it all fit snug. I did this option - heat pipe was about 10 bucks and I image the 964 shroud will cost over 50 bucks.

You also have to fiddle with the electronics after you remove the heat blower. You can pull the relay and fuse for the system, or build a little gizmo box with resistors, etc, to fool the CCU to give you heat at the aircon.

If you want a little bling and you're thinking of doing a weight reduction program - this is a good mod. In hindsight I would have left it as is - but I'm trying to get the weight down to improve performance - and as they say - every little bit counts.
