Wink Ok, so I have this cool PD watch and don't know what to do with it!

Some of you may recall the $2,500 PD limited edition Turbo 911 edition watch. There were 911 made. Well, I received this watch from the PO when I bought my '96TT. The watch is new and I don't believe it has been worn. It's #16 of 911 so, for those who care, its low number in the series. I'll include a couple of pics.

So here's the deal; I'm not a watch guy. Its a cool watch but I know I'll never use it. I also know that these things will not re-sell for anywhere near the original $2,500. So....any of you have ideas of fun and interesting ways to move this watch to more deserving hands (wrists)?

1) maybe have fun with a raffle? $5 per ticket? Of course there would need to be some trust involved here as you would be sending me $ for tickets and would need to trust that I am the honorable guy that I am! Hell, maybe I can even videotape the drawing and post here. Ok, so I know its a little unconventional but it could be fun, right? I mean, the winning person would be thrilled!!

2) other ideas? I'd hate to see this sit in my drawer for the next twenty years.

How about raffle and proceeds go to charity?

Sorry about putting words in your mouth. I just assumed all Porsche Turbo owners were loaded. The parts retailers seem to agree with me... That's why they charge double for anything with the word "Turbo" in it.....

OK, good idea. Let's say 100.00 per ticket and the charity of your choice. No go until 2500.00 min is met.

Don't want to put words in his mouth, but I'm not certain the OP would necessarily want to part with the proceeds to charity on something like this in the current economy. Could be wrong but it's not what I read into the post.

Guys, I'm poor & want the watch, I like the $25 tickets!

Can you make sure it's a "automatic movement" & not Quartz.

I would suggest something like a $25 raffle and any proceeds over a certain amount, not necessarily $2500, would go to a charity like Rennwish. The OP would need to post what he would take for the watch first.

Just a suggestion.

ok guys...I've got a few things to do but will hop back on tonight. I like your thinking and, actually, I'm not opposed to sending some of the proceeds to a good charity. I'm a reasonably fortunate guy. I don't need to maximize my take on the deal. Sure, I'd like to make something on it because in some way, I'm sure I paid for a good portion of this watch in the purchase price of the TT. With that said, if we can have some fun, give a little return for me, raise some good money for a charity, get the watch to someone who will appreciate it, then that would be very cool.

I'll check back in later. Thanks.

Why not put it on eBay with a reserve. If it goes above the reserve, you could give a portion to a charity that you choose. Or not. But eBay is really the best way of finding a true market value for any given item.

For those interested, I found this description online. Interestingly it was in a Rennlist site called the "Rennlist Goodie Store" ? I believe its the same watch. I also noticed there is one for sale on Ebay right now. Its a used one with the Buy it Now at $925. The one I have is in as new condition. I don't believe its been worn.

Watch description:
Among the world’s great cars, the Porsche 911 Turbo is unique. So too is the Limited Edition 911 Turbo Chronograph—a sporting watch as unique and purposeful as its automotive namesake. As with other world-class watches, the Turbo’s heart is a jeweled Swiss automatic mechanical movement. The four-subdial face is rendered in the graphic style of 911 Turbo instruments. And in addition to the chronographic functions, the Turbo tracks twin time zones—supremely useful for international travel.

A surgical stainless steel case with protective shoulders uses a submarine-style screw-down crown and sapphire crystal to provide both durability and water resistance to 100 meters. The rotating tachymeter bezel counts down or measures lap speeds. And the stainless steel bracelet is adjustable to fit any wrist comfortably. The 911 Turbo timepiece will be offered in a limited edition of 911 units worldwide. Made in Switzerland. WAP 070 016 10 $2495 USD/$3765 CAD

So, if you all think there would actually be interest, how does this sound? We do a raffle (I'm open to how much the tickets are priced at). We set a minimum to be raised in order to do the drawing at $1500. If we only raise $1500, $750 goes to the charity. If we raise $2,000, then $1,000 goes to charity. Anything over $2,000 raised, then 100% of the amount over $2,000 goes to charity. This means that the most I can make is $1,000 and all else goes to charity. Would be fun to see if we can raise $2,500 and give $1,500 to the charity. Think it would work?
