I replaced mine a few months back, took a handful of photos to share, and then my 2yo tripped on my laptop power cord and magically erased all of the goodies in the hard drive.
Anyway... After fiddling for too long with one side, and getting frustrated in the process, the light bulb went off. I went into the kitchen, "borrowed" a metal skewer and made some quick mods w/ my trusty Dremel. After getting the tip nice and thin, I was able to put it in place, tap the top and... voila! Out came the ****! Let's just say that I had the other side done in less than 15 min.
I'll take some new pics and post, if anyone is interested.

The shocks have a C clip on the bottom end, you need to slip a screw driver in the the back side of the C clip to open it. Then it will pop off the ball holding it in place. The top side just pull out the key and pin ( put a rag down ) don't drop them. Look at your new hood shocks to see how to open the C works and can be open. Installing the new shock just pop on the ball don't open the clip...

Wow, those look cool! And the prospect of never having to replace them seems worth it to me. Anyone try one of these yet??

How do they mount, do you have to modify/make a mounting location?

Hello everyone. I just changed the front hood struts following great instructions posted by Bill Noble. The only part that I needed to take out was the plastic cover that is over the fresh air blowers – Used a 1/8" X 6' screw driver to loosen the clips at the end of each of the struts and used a stronger screw driver to pushed the ball socket out. The whole procedure took about 15 minutes for both sides. For me it was not necessary to take out any other parts to change the struts.
Good luck.
