Default NY Tri-State "Rumble to ALMS @ Lime Rock - Benefitting CFSRF" - July 18th

Hey guys,

Bob and I are back from our Charity drive to VT and what a blast it was! Looks like everyone had a great time who came out and we were able to raise $1606 for ALS and DAV. Thanks again everyone!

I know everyone is itching for another drive so here it is! We will be taking a nice drive to the ALMS Race @ Lime Rock. For those who are not familiar with ALMS (http://www.americanlemans.com) it is a professional race that features prototypes and GT cars (Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, etc.). Lime Rock is a great place to watch a race as you are able to walk around the park and have different view points of the race.

Bob and I would like to continue the tradition of driving for a cause. This time we will be benefitting the "Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund" (www.cfsrf.org). The fund provides College Grants and Financial Assistance to surviving children and spouses of our U.S. military service members who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. We will also be benefitting the fund with a raffle for a complimentary track day at Monticello Motorclub.

Caravan Details
Date: Saturday, July 18th
Time: 6:45 AM (Leave by 7:15 sharp)
Meeting Location:
Anythony Wayne Rec Area (Large Parking lot)
Palisades Interstate Parkway Exit 17
Bear Mountain, NY 10911
Satellite Map: [CLICK HERE]

Registration/Donation: $20 per car (100% of the proceeds will go to "Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund")
Raffle for chance to win a Track Day at Monticello Motorclub: $10 each or Three for $25 (100% of the proceeds will go to "Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund")

ALMS Tickets (optional)
Tickets are $60/pp for the Saturday events and will need to be purchased individually at: Click HERE for General Admission tickets

UPDATE: They have just added a "Porsche Car Corral" for the race. First 50 Porsches to arrive will be able to do Parade Laps on the track (don't think we'll be able to make it to this however), but you will get to park will your fellow enthusiasts in a Porsche-only section. I highly recommend this option as it's only $5 more than the regular tickets.
Here is the ticket info for the corral: Click HERE for Porsche Corral tickets

Of course this is all optional. Please feel free to tag along for the drive and then head back when we arrive at Lime Rock.

Hey Arrwin. I missed the last trip but I am good for this one. I have not checked the ALMS ticket site but are you also planning to do Porscheplatz (if offered)? I did last year and it was worth it considering the tent (got out of the blazing sun), the beverages, the lunch, the speakers and of course really cool Posche only parking close to the track.

Cool idea, I agree with Tom, Porscheplatz last year was great for the tent and beverages. Totally worth the extra $10.

At what time do you plan on getting to the track? I might just see you guys there since I'd like to go as early as possible to check out the paddock area before it gets too crowded and watch the race cars, mechanics, drivers, etc.

Hi Tom,

Hope you can join us for this one. As far as I know there will be no Porscheplatz this year (of course the only year I have been able to make it).

Arrwin-

Nicely done both organizing the event and posting the info. . . and what a great cause.

Although I am not working with IMSA / ALMS this year, you are correct -- there is no Porscheplatz at Lime Rock,
or any other venues the rest of the 2009 season, as it stands now.

Hopefully that will change in the future -- they were a great source of camaraderie (and yes, protection from the elements!)

Again - well done.
Perhaps I'll get back east for the next ALMS race at Lime Rock -- one way or the other!

Best,
Doc, AKA Kim

Although I won't be making the trip up from the NJ/NY meeting spot, since I'll be driving from Boston. BUT, it'd be great to meet up for the final leg of the drive and hang out together at the event. Arrwin/Bob - Please PM the final route and timing as we get closer and I'll make my plans accordingly.

Should be a fun day and I look forward to seeing many of you again.

Hey Rome....you up for a drive from Boston to meet up with this group in CT?? Anyone else?

Arrwin,

It would be great if we can have the meeting spot in Sloatsburg Rest Stop again. Not sure yet, but I'll try to make it.

I ran across this today. Car Corrals for the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock. Notice the "PORSCHE TICKETS AVAILABLE SOON " comment. Anyone know anything about this? Would be nice if they had it!
