Default PPI in Houston Needed (unbiased from Victory)

My same friend from NY looking for a Targa 96 got attracted by one at Victory's... Despite all my advices he would like to have a PPI in Houston by a independent and unbiased P-shop, not linked to Victory. Any names in your mind ? thanks !

Hit your friend in the head with a brick...friends don't let friends buy from that dealer.

There are several shops that can do PPI in Houston, the very best is Rennsport with Mike Callas in Sealy, about a hour drive from downtown Houston, going west on IH10. Mike is probably one of the best Porsche mechanics in the US, and well worth the extra hour drive. Call him on 1-800-631-7304 or 1-979-885-7304 or e-mail him on rennsport@hotmail.com. If you don't bother to go all the way out to Sealy, Pro Technik with Sam Shalala would be the second choise. Check out www.protechnik.com for contact info. I have used both shops for my Porsches, and you will be in the best hands. As for Victory Motor Cars, I would be very careful. Their cars are seriously overpriced, and they have a flimsy reputation. You can probably get a good car from VMC, but most likely not a good deal...

I believe Mike is who I used when looking at an SC years ago. Did a great job for me.

I'll second what others said.. you can probably get a good car there, but I'd be VERY Careful. With all the cars out there and options, I'd look somewhere else. At least he's getting an unbiased PPI.

IIRC, one of the issues with VMC is that he won't let you do a Pre-Purchase Inspection, just a Post-Purchase Inspection.

1. Go to Mike Callas in particular when you buy from VMC -> you need the best possible inspection
2. If they do NOT accept a PPI -> walk straight away (and be thankful for making a decision easy)

I would not take it to anyone other than Mike Callas in Sealy!

I have used Sam Shalala at Protechnik in Houston. They do a great job and they are great people. No affiliation http://www.protechnik.com/

Be sure too that he checks for:
owner manuals
radio code card
tool kit
spare tire,
inflator kit
etc.

I've heard they sometimes come up missing before the car is picked up. The owner checks and inquires afterwards and they tell him tough s**t!

I used Sam Shala protecknik for a PPI 3+ years ago at a car I was looking at in Houston. They totally fked up the PPI and said it was "one of the cleanest 993s theyd ever seen"... I spent $700 on a flight to Houston to see the car at the Porsche dealer and it was a complete and total POS. Obviously a flood car from Katrina or something...there was mud in the engine bay and the back seat had mud stains. The suspension was completely shot and the car was an utter POS. To Sam's credit, he refunded the $450 that I paid him for the PPI and he admitted "I never actually looked at the car, someone else did"...and he was a very nice guy about it...but it still cost me tons of money for a flight and dealing with an unscrupulous Porsche dealer who were aholes to say the least.

so be careful when choosing any out of state PPI... thats just my advice.

VMC has a positive feedback (per roadfly members) becaise (1) He's using eBay to suck the buyers in. The reserve isn't reached and he then sells OFF-ebay (violation of eBay rules) by contacting the highest bidders. (2) If he does sell on eBay he apparently refuses to release the car until he receives positive feedback. Look at his feedback scores. They have not moved up in months because Neal uses his employees to shill bid on his auctions, then when they don't meet the reserve the second and third offers are contacted offline to make the deals. eBay makes for cheap advertising to suck in buyers. And eBay doesn'rt care if he's a cheat or a liar as long as they get their listing fees. Houston PD has a crime report on file and Texas DOT has an on-going investigation regarding title forgery, deceptive sales, fraud, and tax evasion just on my purchase alone. I'm sure there are many more than me out there with the same issues.

But to put things in perspective, 993 ownr1, has only posted on Victory threads. You'd be credible if you were actually part of the community instead of just bashing Victory.

So let me understand your opinion…

The ONLY viable PERSPECTIVE here is YOURS, because I’m not a Porsche forum regular, posting on a wide variety of Porsche issues, and therefore I lack credibility.

What about the PERSPECTIVE that JUST MAYBE a “not a forum regular” got screwed over to the extent he decided to investigate what the Porsche community, AS A WHOLE, thinks about VICTORY MOTORCARS, and found their way here and found their screwing is but one of many screwing, and decides to post their experiences in hopes of ENDING or at least slowing down the SCREWING… based on the VERIFIABLE FACTS & CIRCUMSTANCES, which he posts, and which SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES, to thereby establish credibility.

Seems that under your PERSPECTIVE, only regular posters will have any credibility. So VMC, as a regular poster in the Porsche community, can lie, cheat, forge, puff, misrepresent, con, and essentially steal from Porsche buyers, and will have CREDIBILITY, because he is a part of the “community”, regardless of any true VERIFIABLE FACTS & CIRCUMSTANCES.

Be sure to chastise all your other COMMUNITY members here who don’t get excited enough to join in the community discussions on paint colors, best tires, and other pressing social concerns…

As for me, well, I’ll post when I have something important to say, and I won’t criticize anyone who is trying to watch out for the COMMUNITY as a whole. Nor would I be so pompous to say who and who does not have credibility, until I know what the true facts are, who is a scumbag and who is a straight shooter.
