Default Considering purchasing a high milage 993

I have been looking for a nice example of 993 C2 coupe for about 6 months. I already test drove a few cars that are offered for sale locally but now I want to check another one that is located over 500 miles from NY. Before I book the flight and schedule a PPI I’d like to ask you guys to take a look at this engine....

This is ‘97 C2 with over 92k miles. To me it almost looks too good to be true as there are no visible leaks and the motor is suspiciously clean...
FYI I had two P-cars in the past including a 1990 C2 964; it was always wet despite replacing cover gaskets several times....

It is obvious that the engine has been cleaned but if you look closely you can spot oil splatters on other under car parts so my guess is this is a normal 3.6L and leaks a bit at the cam towers, valve covers and possibly a little at the rear main seal.

A good PPI will set you straight on where it's leaking........................ZP44

That looks nice somebody must have used a pressure washer on it, I’d want to see records. I have a high mileage 993 and mine does not look like that, however I have records that show all the work that has been performed on it. Does that car use oil? Has a top end job been done, SAI flush? How about the clutch, plug wires, brakes, tires? The nice thing about a clean underside you can quickly find new leaks.

zeesh! Is 92K high milage for a '97? I have a '96 with 96K and I think that is average. Mine doesn't leak btw. Is that so unusual?

Look at those green Monroes! It's going to need some new shocks/suspension!

Funny, I noticed that also.
My car looks like that underneath and I just rolled over 134K. It's all about maintenance records. My car has never had a top end rebuild, cam towers seep a little.
Don't be afraid of a 100K mile 993 IF you can look at the history and get a good PPI.

Is it me, or do the wheels look odd? As if the tires are flat, allowing the lip of the rim to protrude.

Otherwise I agree, it's probably been given it's first undercarriage cleaning to ready it for sale...

Hmm, 92k miles / 12 years on the road = 7666 miles per year. Sounds like a "moderate" daily driver.

My 95' has 99,500 miles and will be 14 yrs old in May with an avg of 7100 miles per year and has a minor leak at the rear main but no leaks at the towers or valve covers, 100k on the odo in these 12-14 year old cars is nothing as long as it was cared for properly.

Hell my last new company car ( 99' Ford Taurus) had 78,000 miles at the end of the 3 year lease and was litterly falling apart.

I agree, the wheels look a bit strange.
