Default OT: anyone had a rock chip in a HEATED front windshield repaired?

Caught a rock with my front windshield in my DD. Resultant chip is ~ size of a dime and NOT in the line of sight of the driver. However, the front windshield is heated through wires embedded in the glass.

I am dubious about the possibility of a repair without affecting the operation of the windshield heating.

If anyone has experience (preferably 1st-hand) of having a rock chip in a heated windshield successfully repaired, I'd love to hear from you.

TIA

Heated windshield? You sure that those wires aren't just the antenna wires?

The windshield repair injects a resin into the void of the rock chip. I can't see how this would be worse than simply leaving the window as is.

It's certainly worth the cost, if only to prevent the glass from cracking further.

100% sure it is a heated windshield - the wires do not simply run around the perimeter and down the middle, but up and down the entire windshield at ~ 1/2 spacings

Agreed on the point about arresting the crack.

I had talked to a reputable repair facility and they said they drilled a small pilot hole and then injected the resin. Their concern was that they didn't want to assume the liability of breaking the heating system of the windshield by drilling into one of the embedded wires and that's why they wouldn't do it.

If it is a Range Rover, the wires for are actually laminated on the inside of the windshield. Not imbedded in glass. Unless they drill all the way through, it should be fine. Just my opinion.

Cool, thanks. I had never heard of that on a 993. Learned something new for the day.

Good luck on the repair.
