Salvage title = deathtrap? Uh, ok. Perhaps sometime you'd be interested in a 45K original mile, clean title RS America that someone could "uncrush" and foisted onto an unsuspecting buyer!

Well, the "deathtrap" comment was supposed to be tongue in cheek, because it's clearly not a deathtrap, but the insurance co. did rate it at a total loss, so if you want to take a $45k chance that it's all good, then more power to ya.

According to the seller, there are three types of titles in Oregon - clear, in an accident, and salvage. This car apparently has the "in an accident" type, not a salvage. Also from the seller, it has the PSS9 suspension done, GT2 turbos and brain, and like someone above said, has the propeller shaft and front differential removed (all the parts long gone and most likely damaged in the accident). The motor was done by Rothsport in Portland and the seller suggested that if more information was needed, to call them. My question around the displacement listed in the ad (3.8 L) and his answer would prompt me to give them a call if the market was a happier one these past few days.

Personally, if I were truly in the market for it, I'd ask Steve Weiner @ Rennsport systems to do a full PPI on it.

Comparing apples to oranges....not only is one a turbo, but a damaged and hacked version at that. This has been discussed many times on this forum and many buyers of the na cars did not want a turbo. In addition, the "premium" attached to the na widebodies has more to do with last model year, low production, etc. than it has to do with performance. It was predicted a long time ago that the values of the turbos would drop below the 1998 widebodies at some point. No idea if/when it might occur but I could see it happening.

Which, before everyone piles on this observation, did happen with certain 912's v. certain 911's. (And obviously pretty much ANY 356 that's a whole car v. any early 911, for many years.)

I'm glad its a salvage...I don't want to see turbo prices at what I paid for a C4S less than a year ago.

As I've mentioned numerous times, there's a pretty good 50K mile '97 sitting in someone's garage in the East Bay that was purchased last August for $45K. And before anyone thinks it was some kind of an inside deal, it was at a consignment dealer for 3 months at an asking price of (starting) $55K, ending $50K. Another Arena Red one that had a somewhat hard life, but is an honest car with about 70K miles, was offered to me at $50K. It was sold through Dawydiak at a much higher price last Sep/Oct, and netted the seller about $53K.
