Default SURPRISE!!!

My car came with the Hi-Fi and digital sound option, however, I had noticed that the digital sound controller was not in the map pocket. So today I removed the driver side map pocket / speaker cover to see what kind of shape the speakers are in.

What speakers??? The entire speaker pod unit has been removed and some dinky 5 1/4" speaker sunk into the door!!!!! ABOMINATION!!!!

Why the hell do people have to do stupid crap like this? AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Not a happy camper. And to top it all off, the scoundrels absconded with the CD changer as well!

FWIW, the recommended audio guru for 993s, Rod Birch, suggests replacing the hifi boxes with a good set of 6.5" components in the existing holes below the hifi box, much as you descibe.

Yes, I did. I was too mad to comprehend...all better now.

I am going to use a component set-up but I wanted to mount it in the stock Hi-Fi box.

So...does anyone have some H-Fi boxes they want to part with?

I'm sure that whatever is there now (dinky 5.25 speaker or not0 sounds better than the Hi-Fi option or enything OEM in a 993. Those Nokias are just... hard to say without cursing. I took one out of the door a couple of days ago and the surround rubber literally disintegrated in my hands. But even when new, they clearly sound good to deaf people only.

Having said that, I am currently doing just that - putting together a component set that will go into the Hi-Fi boxes. And I might actually have an extra set of Hi-Fi boxes for sale.

Nile13, Do you have a spare set of the Hifi door pockets? I have the speaker boxes already and want to try a three way system.

I have a marble grey set that I'll be selling... eventually. I have the black set that will be going into my car. I might even have black carpet that the marble greys can be recovered in. But this is a spring project, so it's a few months away.

The boxes, however, I could easily sell before then.

What speakers are you considering for a three way system?

I'm still up in the air on speaker brand. I have been following the door speaker thread intently. Sending a PM on the speaker boxes...
