Something you can do about the front plate law in California
I know there is no topic related content, but should concern every that lives in California. I am not sure how this would really work to ge tthe law changed, but it's worth a try. This link was posted on a Ferrari forum.

In the meantime, you can try what I do, which is keep my front plate in the front bonnet with one screw and one nut taped to it. Then if you ever get pulled over, you can "more credibly" say that you are headed to Autozone right now to get some hardware to mount it. BTW, if you have an undrilled front bumper, you may want to tape a drill bit to it as well.

Fantastic! We need such a petition here in Oregon. So far, I've been lucky.
While recieving my speeding ticket in Calif last year, the officer asked if I realized that I was required to have a front plate. I quickly changed the subject, asking if I could take his picture. It seemed to work.

This might be the time to approach the topic as saving money--cuts the cost of manufacturing and shipping, helps the environment, reduces waste metal, and that good, green tree-hugger stuff.

The law enforcement community LOVES front plates since they are the best, most efficient target for laser guns. Everyone knows thats all about revenue and with OR really hurtin' right now, a repeal of a requirement for front plates is not likely.

Just signed the petition -- but a little afraid now that they know I dont have a front plate that there will be a ticket on my windshield when I get home. You see, my car is temporarily sitting in my driveway..
At least I have my windshield wipers on (Steve)

Pic is a friend's car. Company that does the plate sticker is called Adver Signs in Newmarket, Ontario. No affiliation, blah blah.

I haven't talked to them yet, so I don't know if they require the original plate or just a picture/scan.
There have been numerous petitions here in Ontario (Quebec doesn't require front plates), all with thoughtful arguments about material waste/expense, cooling & aerodynamics. So far - no response from the gov't.
