Less than the price of a 993 2S/4S
Without getting into the 993/996 discussion; these things are really starting to look attractive. And it's in my favorite color.

i had a brand new 01 996 I ordered back in 98 and waited nearly 3 years for it to come in.. I had sold my 993T to pay for it.
Paid $127K
Sold the car within 3 months with 500 miles on it.
BEAUTIFUL car.. but more like a grand touring car and in order to get any real sound (993 style) out of it, I had to drive around with the windows down and roof rolled back.
My wife still talks about that car.. she loved it.. all nice leather and wood inside.. almost Mercedes S like..
But I never thought is had the "soul".
You see what I have now instead.
Prices will continue to come on down on these...

What is the performace like on your 4s? Tks Abe
I am considering a 96/97 C4S and want to know how it does on things like:
top spead
handling
0-60
etc ....
I presently own a 06S Boxster and it handles on rails but love the look of the 993. Abe

996
it is no secret that the 996 era is the bargin price generation.....
One can get a really good performance car for low money..... 01 turbos especially. The 996 work very well.
it is also no secret however that the 993 era are amongst the best for holding value....
The problem with buying a used low priced 996, is that after owning it for a couple of years you will still rather have bought a 993 instead......

I heard that from the Anderson Mantra in Excellence. But I disagree: I had my mind set on that "newest is best" and test drove 996TT and 993TT and etc. I thought they were night-and-day differences. One's cush and one's raw. One looks antiquated in an honest, solid kind of way, and the other is upscale Lexus atmosphere.
In that situation, I said "I am not going for the newest I can afford because the newest is not what I want."
I might consider a 996TT as a daily driver though and spare the older one the elements. Anderson would be having a convulsion, since I am trashing to newer car instead.

I've been watching the prices drop on those for a while now. I've even test driven a couple. They are blazing fast, handle incredibly well, and are really comfortable. It's truly a car with no compromises for a daily driver. I want one. But, I'm not selling the 993 to get it. I waiting until I get a bigger garage.
The 996TT is an appliance. A very, very, good appliance. A good 993 (or a 964, or 911) is a car you keep forever.

As far as a 996 turbo's issues, my understanding is that it's engine is on a totally different platform than the NA 996's and doesn't have the same problems. I know that to be able to pick up a Porsche like this for under $45k is unbelievable. This car was originally $100k+. Looking at the interior, it doesn't seem to be overly luxurius to me, so I don't equate it to typical luxury cars I often see them compared to. Personally, I would love pick up a 01 or 02 turbo, change the exhaust, add a M030 Bilstein setup to the suspension, add a LWF, and drive it like I stole it. However, the only way I could get another Porsche would be to sell my 911SC which I've had nearly 25 years. Anyone looking for a nice high mileage SC?
