Hi,

Is there a veritable way to decide for sure if my shocks are worn? My car has only done 8500 miles in 12 years so lots of standing around...

Checked the FAQ's - could not find anything... was thinking to go with Bilstein PSS09.

Thanks.

Drive a 1999 Buick LeSabre through some twisties, and then take your 993 out on the same roads. If the Buick handles better, it's time for a new suspension.

All kidding aside, both my 993's were due for a new suspension when there was a floaty feeling when driving over uneven roads, and driving through back country roads above the speed limit became white knuckle affairs. You're probably used to your worn shocks and the car seems to drive fine, but trust me - a new suspension will absolutely transform your car. I like my Bilstein HD's with M030 sport springs and RS sways.

Hi,

Its quite likely that your OEM Monroe shocks are still OK since they don't seem to exhibit wear until 20K.

That said, the stock suspension doesn't handle as well as a properly installed and set up PSS-10 kit (PSS-9's are discontinued and the -10's are FAR better) so your handling objectives may play a role in your decision.

Ultimately, its all about how you drive your car,...

Many thanks for all the replies - looks like the summary is the shocks are currently OK but I can have more fun if I change to PSS 10's! Most of my driving is just straight roads ( with an abundance of potholes! ) but she is still faster than a '99 Buick LeSabre
