Default MY02 shift **** pics

The main thing I've never liked about the stock 993 shift **** is its rubbery feel. Maybe it was just mine, but it had a decent amount of flex to it. My shifter is also grey, and impossible to keep from looking worn. I must say that it's an all-around poor design. I found a 2002 996 **** on ebay and bought it for $250 shipped to my door. (Ouch -- I never thought I'd pay that much for a shift ****.)

The problem with the stock 996 boot is that if you installed it on your 993 you'd quickly find that it's not quite long enough to allow you to shift into reverse or 6th. But I liked the stitching, so I had a local leather guy make me a replica. I gave him the rectangular metal frame ring from the bottom of the stock boot, and he sewed that into the new one as well. Total cost was $50. Here's the result -- I'm very happy.

Looks good

I used a new MY02 Carbon Shift **** and was able to reuse the original shift boot from my '95 by cutting the leather high on old **** and using a zip tie to attach to the shaft.

Check the archives for photos of the install..

Looks great! I bought a 996 **** on ebay for around $30 and Rob Budd at 928 Leather Shop remove the leather and start from scratch. It was pretty cheap, too!

Are you guys seeing the attached image from Noah? I'm not seeing an image, just the "attached image" box for some reason.

Edit : It's on my end. Looks like an issue with Firefox, picture is showing up on Internet Explorer.

Nice shift ****!

Looks Great! I did Combo of "TheOtherEric" and your solution. I stitched a 996 shift **** (that cost me about $35 on eBay) to my 993 boot, then re-dyed the whole thing black. It turned out great.
