New member would like advice on possible purchase of 993 Cabriolet
Hi there, my name is Evan and I'm a new Rennlist member from Boston. I have been looking for a 993 Cabriolet, and think I found the right one. It is a 1996 Midnight blue C2 with Cashmere leather. It has 31k miles, and it is a 6-speed with a LSD. It is located at Victory Motorcars in Houston, and I know they don't have the best of reputations. However, the person who located it for me was formerly very involved with the regional PCA chapter, and knows of three garages in the area that do pre-purchase inspections. I actually paid a visit to Victory Motorcars during a trip to Houston (I have 30 family members there), and they were okay with outside PPIs. What do you think? What should I look for and what should I avoid? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Ok, Ill go first.
Do a search on Victory Morots here and on Pelican. After that if you are still interested, just make sure to do a good PPI with a place of your choice (Ask on here for suggestions) and make sure to ask your PPI place to look at everythign you are interested in. They do have many really mice cars. I dont think the cars are the real issue here. Good luck.

Even a dealer with a crummy reputation sometimes has good cars. A PPI is a must. Make sure they have no affiliation with Victory and make sure they check for flood damage. A Rennlister checking out the car for you before the PPI might be a good idea too.

CarreraX, I did a search, and wasn't surprised. I will definitely do a PPI wherever I get my car.
Rome, where are you located? I'm in Sharon.
H2NO, thanks for the advice. The locator who found the car knows of 3 garages in Houston that are independent of Victory Motorcars.
Anyone in Houston willing to look at the car?

Hey Boston - check out the car well and set your expectations properly. 12 year old cars usually need a few things no matter who you buy them from. I bought my 97 993 Cab from Victory and I got what I paid for. It needed a few things but about what I expected. just factor it into your price.
Pick it up yourself if you can the shipping that they use is sub standard, open/uncovered carrier and takes longer than what they will promise.. car shows up dirty etc.

Good luck with your purchase.
If it doesn't work out and you are OK with RED, you may want to check out his one, it is reasonably close to where you are and may be worth the drive.

I'm on the North Shore.
Be sure ot check out Porsche Fest in September at the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation in Brookline.
Great event if you like these cars. (Hopefully you will have yours by then and can bring it).

Boston,
this place in Needham also seems to have 993s. cant comment on them since I dont know anyone whos purchased there but they seems to consistently have 993s so I assume they know what theyre dealing with
there happens to be a blue cab there right now too.....overpriced but what dealer isnt?

Sloan (also in CT) had a couple of really nice cabs in stock last time I was there, but he is usually a little pricey (but by-and-large gets very good, low-mile examples).

Personally, if I don't trust a business I wouldn't even start with them. If you really want to go forward with Victory I would make sure you look at the car in person. I would not recommend delegating this responsibility to someone else. A PPI is not a substitute IMHO. There is more than one sad story from those who left it to others to inspect their cars from VMS.
