Sounds like you have your heart set on a cab, but if you are willing to spend as much $50K you could probably get into a WB coupe (C2S or C4S) for that kind of money. More than 8,000 cabs were imported into the US, but only 1700 C2S's, for e.g., so you'd be getting a rarer (and some would say a more collectible/desirable) car for the considerable amount you seem to be willing to spend.
Autotrader shows lots of low-mileage ones up in the stratosphere, but there are several with reasonable mileage (50,000 on a 11-12 year old car is near garage queen status in my mind) which are priced around $50.
Good luck, and bring something great home to Boston!

1997 993 C2 Cabriolet. A Very Nice 993 Cab Finished In Guards Red Over Black Leather With Just 42k Miles. The Options List Includes Limited Slip Differential, Abd, 17" Cup Wheels, Driver Comfort Seat, Cruise Control, Porsche Rim Crest Caps, Aluminum Shifter And Handbrake, And More. Call Tim For Details.
I saw the one above @ Holt as well. If you are going to drive your car, it might not be worth it to pay the premium for a low mileage car. I like the options on this car as well.
Best of luck.

if you are considering gaurds red, why wouldn't you consider the one at Weissach with only 62k miles for 36,900. It has been recently serviced. you can use the $$ you saved and pour it into upgrades.

Holts's 19K cream puff is just too expensive. If he puts more even 11K miles on it, the car gets bumped into the lower "non-collector" price category. It all depends on intended use...

Well, I talked to Tim Holt, and he is willing to do $48k for the '96, and I'd pick it up myself, which would save me $1500+ in shipping. The '97 isn't that much cheaper in price, and has more than double the miles. It shows some wear in the interior whearas the '96 doesn't. Plus, the '96 is a previous Holt car, and has a full service record. I will look into the '97, but really like the '96. I really want to stick to low mileage cars, and although I don't plan on driving it much (here's where I get bashed), I have a fear that I might like it too much and end up driving it a lot. The one at Weissach has too many miles for me, but I think you convinced me to consider the '97 at Holt with the LSD.
Rome, I'm assuming you've been to Rome. I'm planning on going to Milan next Spring for a business trip, and want to spend a week in Rome. I have a local Italian tutor lined up so I can brush up on my Italiano.
dcdude68, how much are we looking at for a top end service?
Thanks SOOOOO much for your input. I hope to meet many of you, especially those of you in Beantown.

good luck with the decision, hopefully we'll see you at the porschefest at Larz Anderson in september.
My car has only 30k miles on it so I have never had to deal with this but I would guess you are looking at 5-6k for a top end rebuild.

Seriously... even at 48k that seems high to me. I don't know.... prices do seem to be all over the place on these at times. I can say I've been considering selling mine if it all worked out w/ someone, it's a 95 C4 Cab, guards red/cashmere w/ 40k miles, M030, Bilsteins, HID headlights, front brace, MY02 wheels, built-in K40 radar detector, and other things and would be looking to get around $31k.
Now my mechanic has indicated he thinks the clutch pedal is high, but it's not slipping at all and before he mentioned it, the thought of it needing a clutch never crossed my mind. It has a few noisy lifters and the usual marks in the top from the pins, but even if you did all that, it's nowhere close to 48k.

Well, the '97 with 42k miles is $44,500 after haggling. Almost makes it worth it to buy the one with less miles. $5k isn't the end of the world for a top end rebuild--I imagined it to be twice as much!

Are the prices for these Cabs for real? Are people out there willing to pay over $40K for a Cab?
If so, my car just went up $10K in value in a matter of weeks and I wasn't even aware of.

Boston,
You have the bug real bad! Take a deep breath. If you wait 16 weeks (I know it seems like an eternity) you will save yourself between $10 and $15,000. Once summer fades, even good cars can be had cheaper. I've been in your shoes - this car search is consuming every waking (and sleeping) hour of your day. Your work is suffering, your wife is starting to suspect an affair, the only websites you are frequenting more than rennlist are autotrader and ebaymotors.
Even if you can easily afford it, do you want to pay $45-50,000 for a car that can be had for $35,000? As someone said before, look for a private sale or wait until these dealers are tired of holding onto the cars.
Just my .02

Well, these two cars are in supreme condition, and I can kinda see why they are priced that way. Sloan is even worse. I won't even consider buying a car from him because he marks up so much. He wants $53 for a silver C2 with about 15k miles on it...
I could try waiting 16 weeks, but that would put me into October/November, and I would not even get to drive the car much at all, as I would throw it in storage in November. I store my Bug in November. I want to drive it a bit during convertible season. Plus, (now don't all yell at me now), I want to get this car before my 30th birthday, which is in the winter.
