Thumbs up Question about replacing all the exterior seals..

I have seen a few posts 'cough' Rhino 'cough' of replaced seals and I am liking what I see. I had my car repainted (every panel but the roof) about 18months ago . Had a small rear ender and got a euro front bumper, you all know how it goes.. you make one clean spot...

Since the paint job the seals are standing out as being tired.. before I go down the road anyone know whats involved?

Summers here.. must.. drive.. now...

The external windshield and rear window seals are easy, as are the side mirror base seals. The door handle bases are more involved as are the cowl-fender seals (you need a long 5mm allen key and a big screwdriver as a gentle prybar). The sunroof seals are the biggest PITA....

In short, parts = cheap, labour (you) = book a full day off .

I will post some part numbers for you later when I get home.

My C4S would like brand new... Well, clean the headlights and other lenses, too...

Are the cowl-fender seals the ones that go between the fender and that strip that sits below the windshield where the wiper arms poke thru? Those (2) 9" (apx.) seals look like someone used acid on them and I would love to replace those things, they look like crap. I guess I could do it when I took the bumper cover off to replace the ballast resisters.

Hmm. Doesn't seem to be the case for the seals I need for my cab.
cab top seal 993.561.189.00 $415
vertical window seal 993.561.322.00 8VB, need 2, $159 or $191 each (2 listed by pelican)

Looks like about $800.

Yes, those are the ones. I think around $10-15 each depending on who you buy from.

If you open your door and peer up into the trailing edge of the front fender you'll see some allen head bolts that attach the fender to the cowl and go through the seal. You have to remove all of these and then gently pry the front fender away from the cowl with a large flat head screwdriver - then remove the old seal, insert the new one and bolt up .

Oh yes, cheap seals does NOT include the cab top seals. I did my top seal last year and $415 is about right on the price. FWIW you are getting a BIG seal. It starts at the back of one door, goes all the way down and around the inside of the door, up the side of the windshield, over the top of the windshield and down and around the other door, and it's all one piece! Not too bad to replace, just remove the old gasket glue with the 3M Adhesive Remover and make sure you look closely/take photos of how the orig seal sits on the upper corner of the windshield where the water drain holes are. If that gets installed wrong you can wind up with water coming in your window frame (DAMHIK).

Thanks, another project for the list.

I'm finally getting around to ordering these parts and I checked Matt's part numbers with my copy of PET (12/06) and found a couple of discrepancies. I will check with Sunset after I place my order and post any corrections to my info then.

993.505.543.00 & 544.00 (L&R) Piping between the front bumper and fender (headlight area)

Cowl-fender seals (2) (in my PET called "Wing Seal") this is the seal between the fender and the lower part of the windshield frame over to the upper corner of the "trunk" area. About 9 - 12" long each side.
993.503.393.00

Door handle base seals
993.537.631.00
993.537.621.00

Side mirror base seals (in my PET called "Desk Pad" WTF)
965.731.247.00
965.731.248.01

Bumper beading (see above, called "piping" in PET)
993.505.544.00

I did not check the windshield seals, I have a cab and expect they would be different anyway.

Otherwise, thanks very much Matt. I tried like &%$@ to find that "wing seal" in Pet but couldn't find it until I came back to this thread and found his p/n's. When I searched on the p/n he used Pet had the seal in a drawing that looked like the seal was part of the fuel filler assembly! No way I would have found it.

To answer your question the way I understand it,

all the seals of a coupé tip to butt are very cheap but ONE is expensive.
I have purchased the lot and it was a story of less than 100 euros.
The expensive seal (relatively) is the rear window seal. regards

Well crap! Sunset had all the parts but 1 of the 2 "wing seals" in stock. They even had the driver's side mini-grill for the Pepper in stock but no use shipping until all the parts are in, oh well. Teach me for waiting so long to order.
