Mike, must have something to do with that shifty dude you bought the car from.
FWIW, I never touched the tach and am quite surprised to see it do that. Car lived in Cali, then AZ and then moved to HI... heat related maybe?
Good to see you got the part to fix it through such generous, unselfish means. Props to Anthony.
It renews my belief that is is undoubtedly the best forum on the net and that the Rennlist spirit lives on.

I'm having the same issue with the glass detached from the tach gauge. I install the rennline aluminum cover and re-glue the glass cover but now I can't install it back. Is there a trick to this as the it won't clear the steering wheel. help please

This just happened to my 993 TT Tach .
I sent it to No Hollywood speedo for repair.
He said it happens all the time as the casing is thinner at the bezel and gets brittle over time. There are no replacement parts from VDO.
They make a one time repair only but it can't be opened after that.
They considered making replacement part but $30k tooling cost is an obstacle .

I ended up having to remove the steering wheel in order to remove the steering column covers to get enough clearance to reinstall the tach. The epoxy seems to work well. I took a risk by removing the airbag without disconnecting the battery and had no issue. The airbag deployment is actually electrically triggered. The longest part of this process is couple runs to HD to get the torx keys that long enough.

So Anthony promptly sent out the tach housing and I received it a few days later. It looks exactly like mine, only it isn't broken. To add insult to injury, he wouldn't even take my money for postage!!! What a nice guy! We should all take a lesson from this extra-cool dude!
THANKS ANTHONY!
Pics to come when I transfer the housings (if anyone cares)

I resurected this thread because i have the same broken tachometer case problem. The tach glass fell onto my lap going up the laces at the Glen the other day. There’s no practical way to repair the plastic housing and no way to reattach the bezel.
If anyone has a tach case kicking around, drop me a pm. Thank!

Happend the same to me when I was swaping the gauge faces. Although, mine did cut even, I proceed to glue it carefully and so far is holding firm and in it's place.
The plastic gets brittle by time....
