In the end, you will probably never see it the way I do because some people are car people and some people are not. I would never treat something that I owned like this, least of all sell it to someone else like this. But you did. Ultimately it's a question of values and that's a place that we're not going to find a middle ground.
What are you going to do with the car?

In the Spirit of Rennlist: MEDIATE
To the seller, your attitude is fairly rare amongst the denzions of Rennlisters; the very reason the majority of us join a group like this is to lean on each other and believe we'll do the right thing when it comes to our cars and dealing with each other. It's really about trust, integrity and honesty.
Has the seller indicated to Dan Jacobs at the Hairy Dog Garage that this thread exists? You're not doing your friends over there any favors. Have a look at the number of views this thread has. Jacobs livlihood depends on a good reputation, and that's extrememly hard to get in his business, yet really easy to lose.
Matt, if the seller is offering center caps. Take them.
Matt: Give Dan Jacobs a chance to make you whole on your PPI expenses.

I'd love to see the PO's version of a junk car if this DE machine is actually as described by Matt.
I know for sure I'd be on the phone to the PPI mechanic ASAP!
Sorry it turned out this way

I don't know either of these guys but I have seen no proof, other than "he said, he said" that the seller is lacking in integrity, trust or honesty. You could make the same claim against the buyer for a number of things brought up in this thread but that would be no more appropriate.
You guys are awfully fast to come to judgment with no proof whatsoever.
There is a lot going on here that we are not seeing....and I think we owe it to both gentlemen to base our judgments on the facts that have been presented, not the opinions, with the ultimate goal being helping the buyer get his car sorted to his satisfaction.

Dan had nothing at all to do with this. He looked at the car mechanically, as Matt requested. If it comes down to the PPI cost I'll refund that too, plus the wheel caps.
I did the right thing here. If the post was on the DE board, there would be a dozen people from CVR telling you how off-base this all is.

(I do not know any of the people involved.)
What did the SELLER do wrong?
His track car was for sale.
The buyer chose to not look at the car.
The buyer had a PPI done, possibly without pursuing a detailed understanding with the inspector, either before or after the inspection.
(BTW, why should the seller contact the guy who did the PPI for the buyer? What does the seller have to do with the PPI or the understanding between the buyer and the inspector?)
After the PPI, the buyer chose to buy the car.
And now, some period of time later, the buyer regrets buying the car and for some reason starts this thread.
Sorry, I'm having trouble seeing the seller as a bad guy here.

Because a PPI is there for basically an unbiased opinion of a car for sale between two parties. It would be my thought to speak with the place that performed this service on the car.
Posting some images of the car as it is now, in similar lighting as the other posted images earlier is this thread would be good to see.
Sorry to see this sort of transaction go sour -- buying 911's are supposed to be fun

Well said. Noah parsed this situation well a while back.
You also can't ignore the inflammatory (to say the least) title of this thread, and the fact that it was posted some months after the sale. The deal is long overwith.

Reread the threads. There was an existing relationship between the seller and the PPI shop. The PPI shop has EVERYTHING to do with this. What's the purpose of a PPI if it's not an unbiased opinion?

Matt, that's a generous offer, I'd take it. PPI costs and center caps.
Lawrence, that's the spirit of a Rennlister!! Please accept a retraction of my previous comment! Hope to see you at Limerock someday.

I think it's less likely that a shop would harm its reputation by not disclosing everything in a PPI that it would be to side with a party selling a car.
Another interesting bit is the part of neededing a new battery and wheel bearings. Did those suddenly change after the PPI, revealing a bad PPI, or did they change during the period of time between the PPI and recently?
In general, when I see a He said / She said situation, I look for neutrality. The title of this thread certainly isn't neutral. There's really no evidence that the PPI isn't neutral; only alegations that it was bad. From all I've read the shop has a good reputation.
Perhaps this kangeroo court of public opinion should see the PPI.

[QUOTE=Smiles;5507611]I read them thoroughly.

[QUOTE]
Customers providing cash for goods and services. Previous customers giving good reccomendations. They're both equally important; a good shop would never just take a 'side'.
Rennlist members make up a very narrow focus group. There is not a Porsche Indie Shop out there who does not appreciate a good reputation here.

To clarify re. some of the recent posts, I just picked the car up this week. I had never seen it before then. As I've stated, mea culpa in that regard.
The PPI brought up only the issue of the front rotors. As I've stated, the rears are almost toast. The other items were found after the EVO uprights were installed and after the PPI was done. Again, the constellation of issues with the car are a reflection of the whole package.
As someone stated, the title of the thread is not neutral, nor should it be. It's how I feel, I've got a good handle on these cars, and I think it's legitimate. I've been transparent about what I clearly screwed up on, what my expectations were, and what the true condition of the car is.
I appreciate that it's difficult in a he said/he said situation and I have read all the posts here as food for thought re. a full spectrum of opinions and perspective. I know that everyone reading this understands that it's difficult to comment on the process without being privy to the deal, communications - and be standing in front of the car.
I will post some pics today or tomorrow since I think that's owed to you guys given how this thread has mushroomed into a monster .
I have always been a straight shooter on this board and will continue to be a presence here, but probably a little less this summer. To answer someone's question, I think I'll probably keep the car because to sell it in its current condition would represent too much of a loss. Randy from Whaletail Canada is coming up today to put a laundry list together of everything we have to source/fix.
Larry - I am somewhat buoyed by your gesture re. PPI refund and center caps for the wheels, but I will let you follow up with me by email or phone (you have both) should you choose to do that.
