Default Navigation: Where is the US version?

Why hasn't someone figured out how to get US maps loaded onto this unit? There must be a work-around out there somewhere. Seems like there would be enough demand in the US for Becker to have done it by now.

I do not think that this is an interesting market for Becker in the US. With the portable GPS units for 200 bucks or less, aftermarket navigation systems as DIN replacement for OEM radio units will disappear.

If Becker proves me wrong, I am one of the potential customers ...

It's NOT going to happen. Best thing is the older Traffic Pro, that's on eBay for $300.

I'm not sure why people keep promoting these obsolete GPS units for the US market when the US maps are already five years old and not going to be updated.

I like the Traffic pro as an upgrade to the CR-1 or the CR-210. Much better radio with Aux/CD controls and the OEM look. $300 bucks for all this is cheap money. Although I will take my Nuvi along on long trips.

I favor the aftermarket units. For less than $500 you get online software updates and with Garmin, I get an alert when new maps are available or a new fixed radars database is available. This allows 2 uploads which would do fine for wife and I. Now that we are split, she does not get the updates; she can get lost by herself!

Most things are still there, & will be for a while. If you know how to use a GPS system, you can get just about any where you need to go.

Even with my "modern" Audi Nav, with the latest maps, it still would take me down the long roads, & give wrong directions, & some of the POI's are either not there, or in the wrong place.

I picked up the TP for a couple of reasons..
Cheaper then the Cd220, & same radio unit.
It came in a Porsche box, & says Porsche on it.
Don't have to worry about it being stolen, & will still get me to most places I need to go.
It takes 30min to install, 20min of that being the Nav Antenna. Got to love plug in, use.
