Default Love my HID mod

Spent $98.98 shipped for an HID kit off of ebay. Did it myself in 45 minutes. Super slim ballasts, stuffed it all into the headlight bucket itself, true "plug-n-play", 6000K color (very slight hint of blue.) Just went for a cold top down test drive (10:45 pm), they're awesome.

Fliping on the high beams doesn't do a WHOLE lot anymore. I didn't realign them at all, they just seem super bright....didn't get flashed by anybody going opposite direction.

Actually drove to my local drycleaner strip mall to check out how they look to others via the darkened shop windows,...very cool if I do say so myself. Tough to find a better mod for 100 bucks. I know tons of guys have done this already, but if you haven't you gotta look into it.

Thanks to all that took the time to post in the various HID DIY threads.

I love this place (slope and all)

Just went for a cold top down test drive
I'm jealous. It'll be 6 weeks before I get my top down.

Over the years I kept looking into a litronic conversion and the cost was just prohibitive. Now it seems that $100 will buy you anything. Of course it's all made in China. I just sent IKEA $200 for a 3000 Sq ft modular home, furnished. Of course it's made in China, but hey, what the heck. I just have to put it together. Hope I don't lose those cute little tools they send with the kit.

I installed my HIDs last year sometime. Got them from Ebay China vendor, I don't recall the exact vendor, and I couldn't find it but these look like the same kit I got: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-K...spagenameZWDVW

I got the 4300K color, very white, and supposedly the highest Lumen output. search the archives for installtion thread, pretty straight forward.

I also did this in my 95, the 97 has Litronic.

Mine are the super slim ballast, fit perfectly in the headlight, takes about 15min per side.
The light output is on par with the factory stuff, but it's different, I will say the real Litronic have a better beam patten & seam to cast a little more light.

At first I was pissed at the install, but found out my slim ballast when pushing down on the headlight & throwing the beam way down! This was after messing with the adjustment **** for 20min & not understanding why it would not move! Once they went to normal level, all is well, & WAY, WAY better then the stock H1 bulbs!!

There are a FEW on eBay, just do a search for H1 HID slim/small ballast. I got mine for $135 shipped.

I've seen other posts on this topic before, but did any of you do HID fog lights as well. I've got a great set of HID's that came with my car, but now the fog lights look horrible in comparison. Any advice from you experienced owners?

Thank you.

Matt, I am currently working on a a HID fog light retrofit. The weather has been too nice recently to buckle down and get to work...

I have not found the perfect light source yet - considered the Hella Micro DE, the OEM fog projector and various OEM projectors from Valeo, etc.

Ted,
We know the standard Micro DE will fit into the Turbo S housing, so why not try a set of the Micro DE HID lamps. I think they're a bit on the expensive side....

Andreas, I agree that the Micro DE would be a good choice, however, I believe the beam pattern for the HID lamps is different from the Micro DE fog lamps.
It would be great to hear from a Rennlister who has direct experience with the Hella HID setup. Otherwise, I will probably retrofit the DE fog setup with a HID kit

I hate having to look at people's excessively bright aftermarket HID headlights. I'm glad you like your lights but I sincerely hope they are not offensive to others.

I agree. It seems like this is mostly an issue with bulbs that are overly blue/purple (8000K+ ?). I saw an annoying example of this a few hours ago on a Focus.

Typically OEM HIDs also have self-levelling systems, which aftermarket lights don't. But with stiff suspensions and small front trunks our cars should not need to adjust much to extra weight sagging down the *** end.
