Help, I just found out my car has a salvage title.....
I bought a 993 on Xmas day. I clicked the Carcheck.com ( not carfax) link on the auction page and got a clear accident history report. The previous owner told me he did a carfax b/4 buying it in Jan. of 05 from a guy in Va. and the car was accident free. He did admit that it had obviously had some paint work. Anyway, I bought it to flip and make a few dollars. I put it up for sale this week and a guy I've been talking with said he did a carfax and it shows it has a salvage title and was involved in an accident Jan. 05 in Arlington, Va. Doesn't the title have to say 'SALVAGE' under the Title Type heading? I'm almost sure it does. I've been played by someone and I'm pretty mad but what can I do.The title he signed over to me did not say salvage and the title I received form my state does not say salvage. Does anyone have any experience with this type situation. I'm really not a dumb**s but I'm sure feeling like one. Luckily I'm only $22,800 into the car so it could be worse. Any comments or help would be appreciated. I think I need to talk to the Co. Clerk and an attorney. What do you guys

No, I did a carcheck which was clean. My prospective buyer is going to email me his copy of his carfax. I have had some issues with this car since I've owned it a friend who owns a Motorsports garage told, after buying it, that it looks like it has taken a hard hit in the right front. I screwed up by not doing PPI and inspecting it myself. This being my first Porsche, I've learned a lot about 993's in the past 8 wks. If it is in fact a salvage title, why does it not say so on my title or the one that was signed over to me. Thanks,Mike

It doesn't really even matter what the title says -- if the car was whacked, then the selling price is going to have to reflect that. You win some, you lose some. Sorry. The best thing you can do at this point is determine how well the damage was repaired. Hopefully it was done right.

IMHO you'll probably get $22,800 out of it, assuming you can find a buyer who is negligent enough to neither run a Carfax nor do a PPI, nor even visually inspect it for crash evidence. That'll probably take quite a while indeed.
p.s. you haven't told us any details about the car, so it's impossible for any of us to help you with value. Model, options, mileage, condition, etc.

(from a previous thread):
BTW, my new car (and first P-car) is a
Polar Silver/Black 1996 993 Coupe w/tiptronic auto. 66,800 miles, all original except for Blaupunkt MP35. It has had several owners and was leased at least once but has a clean carfax but surprisingly few service documents.

I have had all manner of irregularities. FIrst CarFax is to be used only as a reference. I hit a tree with a Lexus where the repairs ended up more than the car was worth. I priced it low, figuring the car would come back dirty. Just before I took the cashiers c heck the buyer said he better run a CarFax. The Lexus showed not a scratch. NOt bad for a $16000 repair. CarFax is a tool that dealers use to lull you into a sense of security when you over pay for their cars. What is on the title is what counts. OTOH, I have had to odo probs and those were resolved and if yoiu want details PM me. State and federal laws basically are real clear. Ignorance is no excuse.
