Default Odometer/trip broken ...

The speedo works, but the odo and trip aren't rolling.
I just noticed today when the fuel light lit up. Anything I can do that's user-serviceable, or am I biting the bullet and going to NoHolly Speedo?

You have a stripped odo gear. You can do it yourself, but No. Hollywood did it for me while I waited. 1st class service, and quite reasonable.

Greg, Steve,
You guys rock! OK, so help me save some dough here (just shelled out lots for a clutch etc on my Trackmeister ...ugh!). Can you point me to the writeup on the odo gear replacement? Thanks!!!

Edward, see the link to P-car below. I have done the repair myself which was fairly straight forward. There are a few threads on this that would be worth reaidng.

And after you fix it, never set the trip while the car is moving or it may break again!

Yes, Chris is 100% correct....All Porsche newbies please note this....I learnt the hard way on my first 994 that Porsche used cheap plastic on these cogs and over time the plastic gets old and brittle.....if you are moving, even slowly, the force of resetting against the cog that is trying to drive the odometer cog will just cause it to break.

I have the OBC and do not have a manual trip meter. My gear failed.

The DIY write up is great but you don't have to take the needle off - I repeat - you don't have to take the needle off to get the gear set out. Here is a link to pictures of my repair https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/383030-diy-odometer-repair-pics-with-needle-installed.html

Hi Geo,
Yeah, I have a trip meter.

Greg, thanks for that ...will give it a go w/o removing the needle

Geeze, should have known to check Robin's site first; not to mention a link to where to buy the gear ...you guys are great!! Thanks for all the feedback, gents. As always, you guys and this board are the best!!!

UPDATE:

Wow! Not only does my odo/trip meter now work, but the gear parts arrived in 3 days, and Jeff (at http://www.odometergears.com) was a real class act ...highly recommend him! He returned my email in minutes and extended me an open offer to help me over the phone should I need it. The DIY pics and write up were excellent, as usual (though I obviously don't have Greg's skills as I couldn't do it w/o taking the needle off). Between Jeff and you guys here, and of course Robin's site, you all saved me considerable dough! Thanks all. With deference to Chris W. ...is this a great place, or what!!!
