Default Ipod Mount

This is how I mounted my iPod.
Parts: Navone iPod bracket and DLO neoprene case w/ belt clip.

I got the Navone bracket, thinkig I could put my iPod on the passenger side of the center console. Since my iPod is in a case, it didn't quite fit, so I played around and came up with this.
I drilled a hole in the belt clip and atttached it to the metal bracket, then hung the bracket from the ash/change tray. The clip has a quick release that allows easy removal of the iPod, plus it hangs right in front of the gear shift, so it is easily accessible. no holes in the car, completely removable.

Not bad! Nice & clean, & nothing permit.

I put mine in the storage pocket in the back of the center console.

That's where I put mine. I ran the Ipod connection under the tunnel and have it poking up right behind the tray.

I tell ya, thieves will not hesitate to bust your window if they see an iPod in plain view. NEVER leave it there. My solution is an Alpine deck that is iPod ready. The iPod sits in the glove and you control it and view your music from the face of the head unit. I never even touch or see the iPod. Works flawlessly.

It's was only $199 installed from Cartoys and they did a nice, clean job in one hour. Highly recommended!

I have the same Alpine set-up: iPod in the glove box, and the iPod-ready Alpine unit displays all the iPod info. Clean, no muss or fuss and no one can see it.

That is the beauty of the quick release, I just unplug it, click the belt release, and it's out, I can do it with one hand.

Ditto on the Alpine head unit with Ipod in glove box.... had the unit installed last week. It's awesome.

As usual, I got a bit overindulgent and added the Sirus module... (not an easy install getting the antenna on the rear shelf with the roll-bar in place). I just couldn't imagine surviving the 7 hour drive to VIR next month without my Howard and Jam-on (channel 17).

The BTCUP was a Christmas present (no affiliation, etc). It charges the ipod via a cig lighter connection and can sync (b/t) with your cell phone (FM channel uses car speakers). Haven't tried the cell phone thing yet-I usually turn my phone off when I get into the car.

I use an old insulated coffee cup to get some heighth and I put it in my cup holder that attaches to the seat rails. Kind of overkill but I like it. I like the bracket in the ash tray. Much simpler than mine.

I'm running the IDA X001, with the Ipod in the g/box.
Cost me about £200, but seems these guys are doing it for just over your budget:

No idea if they are any good for service, etc, but the unit itself is nice if you do not mind sacrificing the ability to play CDs (radio and ipod/other mp3 only)

That's the one I was just looking at. How do you like it?

And why is the IDA X100 less expensive than the X001, but seems to add more, like USB connectivity and iTunes tagging? It also has more outpout power (45W v 50W) but it's $400 instead of $450.

I think its a nice unit overall.

Some of the functions are not the easiest to get to, and the centre dial which is meant to replicate the scroll wheel on the ipod does not have the functionality I would have expected, but it does the job generally, and has a nice sound.

As to the X100, I've never heard of it - maybe that it was not available in the UK for some reason? the X101 has the USB connectivity though - what is itunes tagging - not sure if it does this?

(My knowledge of things ipod/itunes is quite limited as you can see!!)

Me too! I just checked at the Alpine USA website, and it seems that the X100 is older tech, for use with older iTunes.
