Good man, Chris.:) |
Damn! I wish I could get a free 15 bhp. I already have a strut brace, so my 993 handles amazingly! Now all I need is an airbox cover!
|
Forgive my ignorance - but what is this part? Thanks!
|
Looks like a fabspeed airbox cover, should have guessed it by those very modest claims
|
air box cover with a big hole in it. Your air box cover and a dremel tool can achieve the same result.
|
This cover was on my turbo and I just couldnt wait to get it off. Funny thing is I was wiping it down to get the dirt / grime off of it and I was honestly concerned that I was going to break it while cleaning it. LOL!

This bad boy is indeed worth a few hp. I did some data logged runs a while back and got like 3-5 hp, above 4000 rpm or so. It's all posted here somewhere.
But-- this cover IS NOT compatible with Porsche's new air filter, which has the felt outside frame. This cover can't hold it in place and the filter will get sucked into the intake. I've posted pics of that problem too... |

I didn't really jump on this for the hp but mostly because I was shocked that I was going to be the first to reply! :) Actually, I was interested in it for the sound and to preserve my existing Motorsound cover. But since I've got the newer style air filter, so maybe this will look better with a clock in it (Andreas?) |
I got 50 hp from my Fabspeed cover. :icon107:
|
I'd say it does'nt cover much. :) More like a surround
|
This is a fantastic upgrade. The way it sucks hot engine air (compared to stock w/ trumpet) and collapses the air filter really optimizes the engine's airflow.:icon107:

This mod is ok, just don't use the felt-rimmed filter. But K&N filters have their own issues too... |

I just installed this set up today. The Fabspeed piece is very flimsey but fits ok. Over priced. I put in the K&N filter. Seems to fit ok, not perfect. If I may ask what problems have come up with it? |

I've fitted the K & N filter a while ago. Could you let me know what the problem or potential problem might be? Thanks

Not a biggie. At idle the air temps might be a tiny bit higher, but at speed there's so much air flowing that there 's really no heating of the air. Net result is a few hp over the stock with trumpet due to less flow restriction.

I have a couple of these lying around too... also, if I go by a $/hp equation these items should be worth alot, well more than "free to good home" that Chris accepted.
Let's see, 3.8 conversion = $12K or so, yields 30 hp. Fabspeed airbox cover yields 15 hp, so $6000.... I think I'm sitting on a gold mine here. :) |
