Preparation for Powder Coating?
I'm looking at purchasing a used set of 996TT HSs and getting them PCd.
The set I'm looking at have curb rash on the rears - do I need to get this repaired before having the wheels PCd??
All adds to the cost $$$$$
TIA

Surj, I have a set of 996 HS powdercoated black with a machined edge...depending on how bad the rash is it should come out as a byproduct of the machining process.
thats if your going for that look and not all black.
personally i think the edge looks better then all black

Drifting
The surface needs to be smooth but still have "tooth" so that the powder has something to grip after it is baked and cured. Most powdercoating places will media blast the piece both to clean the part of whatever and also to give it some texture.

Surj, I see you are in the NorCal neighborhood... I have a set of 996TT hollows for sale & don't want to ship... Have worn out tires that i'll have my shop take off so that you can do your thing with the wheels... Curb rash too, but not too bad (can't compare to whatever you're looking at currently).
PM me if interested...

Not a dumb question, I too would like to know the answer. Peening strengthens the metal. But due to the sharp edges of the beads I wonder if it creates surface fractures or if it too will strengthen the metal like peening—regardless I doubt it would weaken the wheels enough to be a concern though

Do a search (I hate saying that).
There have been threads on this topic of PCing weakening the 'tensile strength' of wheels before. More has been made of the temperature of the PCing process than the bead blasting.
I dont remember the specifics but I did speak with the PCing firm and they assured me that they have done TT wheels before - they do a lot of auto and bike stuff...
