WTB 3 spoke steering wheel for 96 993
I'm looking to change out my 4 spoke for a 3 spoke. I use my car as a DD (NJ=April-Nov.) and do 3-4 AutoX per year and no DE's (yet).
I'm looking to get a 3 spoke and have read the threads and have the PN's for the 996 wheel and air bag with colored crest.
Before I pull the trigger I was wondering about what else is out there brand-wise and is there something about size I should be considering. Also, this will be a DIY project and is there anything about wiring and airbag issues I should know (yes I do plan to disconnect the battery for 3-4 hours first). I also want to make sure I buy from a Rennlist sponsor (who?) Thanks.

There are tons of steering wheels out there. I went with an 365mm FVD wheel that was on sale at the time and have been more than happy with it. Many will tell you that it's the same as stock size, but it isn't. It's smaller. Not 340mm small, but somewhere in the middle between that and stock. It's definitely an improvement over the stock wheel. I think I paid around $600 for everything, but that was on a kickass sale. I wouldn't do it again if it cost $1200 or whatever they usually charge. I'd probably find a 996 3 spoker. Anyway, here's a couple of install threads that might answer some questions about the airbag stuff:

Just received my air bag and 3 spoke 996 wheel from Sunset yesterday. I'll install it when the snow stops falling. I like the look a lot better than the stock 4 spoke.

Although on my 964's still the same basic set up (different hub needed) I have 2 different wheels both RIAD same wheel used on the ruf, techart Gemballa cars.
I went with a 360 mm for my track/AX car and I have the 320mm for my turbo. I love the feel and extra thick grip of the 320mm but it takes much more effort to drive than the larger 360mm wheel. If you don't track I say the 340 or 320mm wheels are perfect if you do DE or especially AX I would stick to the 360mm wheels.
BTW the CF wheel has a custom leather AB.

Bow down to the mother of all 993 wheels
I posted on the 996 and the 996 GT2/GT3 forum and got a 3-spoke wheel from a 2004 GT3 for $200. I sent it to Dallas Custom Steering Wheel and had it rewrapped in alcantara with 1/8" padding, silver stitching, and yellow insert. Orderd the silver-crest airbag from Sunset. Was this a completely frivolous and unncessary purchase? Yes. But, it's thick and cushy.

You guys are great, thanks.
I love the look of the carbon fiber/leather wheel and will look into that one.
360mm sounds like the way to go.
The install Threads and p-car info make it a definite DIY
Is this place great or what!!
