USA imported 993 for sale in Ireland!
I've been eyeing this ad in one of Irelands largest car websites for the last week;
http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index...r&carID=892881
It's keenly priced by Irish standards , and I have a friend who may be interested.
I was wondering if you guys would know any major differences (besides the obvious :wheelonwrongside: ) between the US and Euro cars , especially differences that could be problematic ..

Shamrock,
I would advice you to run a Carfax report for the car (www.carfax.com - you need the VIN number) along with a pre-purchase inspection by a local P-car shop. At least a carfax report will give you a bit more info re its history and any 'issues' such as accidents, etc.
My brother bought a Chevy Suburvan in Sweden a while back, and later ran a carfax report that indicated that the car did not have a clean title in the US...he took it back to the dealer...all is well

1. I don't see a rear fog light switch on the dash. I see front switch but not rear. On US spec cars, there is no fog fitted as standard and I think you might need this to pass an MOT (deffo in UK).
2. I don't see front wing (fender) indicator (blinker) lights. Again these might be a requirement for MOT (deffo in UK).
3. It does look like its had its REAR left and right indicators changed (they will have been red on US spec) now amber.
4. I think (please correct me) I see a cruise control stalk. Doubt that would be usual UK spec.
5. If you check the CD player you will probably find a bruce springsteen CD.
... and Shamrock, hope you worked out the source of your water leak !

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm pretty sure that we need neither side markers nor rear fogs to pass the NCT (Irish mot)
Good point on the carfax , will run that if he's interested .
It's great to have dozens of pairs of eyes looking pictures of a car over , I'm happy with the usual bits like extra bumpers , ride height , hamper handles ec ... I was wondering if the smog detectors might be present , possibly setting off the cel in the future.. Something my car won't have come up....

To add to the list:
- front head lights
- different ECU
- safety warning stickers all over the place (welcome to America ...)
- gearbox only different for 95 and 96 models, from 97 up all have the longer gear ratio
- OBD II for 96+ models. No issue in Europe. When check engine light comes on, just pull the bulb

I don't think the door trims are related to whether or not it's a varioram model. My previous 993 had these trims, whereas my current one doesn't - both cars are varioram models.
I'm not sure but I think the style of trims is linked to the audio options - i.e. the ones shown are due to higher spec speaker system.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
