Default Shifter question, to grease or not to grease??

I'm in the process of installing new ball bushings in the shifter rod,
Actually they are alredy in. The question I have is, do you use any grease in the plastic ball cup bushing where the shifter ball goes in?

Chris,
I used some Phil Wood waterproof grease when I re-assembled my shifter mechanism. My old (and very original) ball cups had some form of grease in them. I'm still waiting waiting on the carbon dating results to come in.

So yes, I would recommend greasing, and I presume just about anything should work well.

I have installed them with a good dab of teflon grease in the cup - enough so that you have to wipe the squirting excess off after pressing it on: on two different cars I've opened up, the downward facing forward ball stud was rusted in the plastic bushing - which stiffens up the shifter action. This is a classic moisture trap, so the cavity was filled with grease .....
