D-I-Y Headlight Switch Tightening and Bulb Replacement
 

i recently was having a problem where the entire headlight switch assembly was spinning in the dash when i tried to turn the headlights on or off. I searched the forum high and low looking for the solution but could not find it. i even asked some people specifically but no one had the answer. well, i figured it out myself and i though i'd post it here in case anyone else ever has this problem...

btw, this was done on a 1996 993 Turbo

pop off the headlight switch knob (you really need to pull on it)... the switch assembly is retained in the dash by something called a "rosette" which is a black ring around the outside of the assembly with 4 little holes in it. while holding the assembly from the little nub sticking out the middle where the light bulb goes with your fingers, turn the rosette clockwise(i stuck a little phillips head one of the holes) until its tightened up......pop the knob back on (there is a little tab in the inside of the knob that you have to line up with a slot on the switch) and voila! good as new!

if the bulb is not working........while you have the switch off, you can easily pull it out with your fingers and replace it (this is much easier than trying to pop the cover with the little picture of the bulb on it out of the knob without removing the knob which i read somewhere on here)

Where were you when I needed you! :) Replaced my bulb yesterday the hard way I guess. Pulled the little plastic cover and pried out the bulb. Wasn't really that bad, kind of makes me nervous pulling on the knob like that but guess it worked.

By the way, just out of curiosity, which way is the bulb on the cover supposed to point, up or down?

my cover was pointing up when in the off position. could you tell me what part # the bulb is, i havent found one yet.............

Sure, either 900-631-132-90 at the Pcar dealer, or Sylvania 2721 at any autoparts store.
